All I’m saying is that Duffy played well. Nobody can disagree. I’d add add that he defended better than white and his distribution was equal.

Now here comes the spanner in the works. Webster played in the BW position. He was outstanding defensively but was awesome offensively. Much more than I ever saw from white.

I’d take £59m for white but would demand a lot more for Webster.

We made same observation yesterday Duffy in the centre just won the ball and laid it off to Dunk or Webster who drove the ball forwards and Webster had numerous runs into the opposition half. When Lamptey and Veltman return that is now a genuine option for 3 CBs if that is how Potter wants to play

Now Shane, defend like your life depended on it, attack the ball when we get a corner and if the ball is at your feet, only play 10-15 yard early passes to Webster, Dunk, Biss, or at a push, Sanchez

Job Done, Boss

This. He kept his passing simple. He is the best header of the ball at our club. If he cuts out the silly passing he will be a massive asset.

Such a huge positive to have him back playing the way he is. Provides additional cover without the need to go and spend.

The biggest positive for me was hearing him talk after the game about how much he loves the club and how he will contribute on and off the field anyway he can. What a great attitude, he clearly appreciates all we have done for him.

He may not start every week but what a player to bring on to see out a game. A few times last season there wasn’t much defensive cover on the bench so having him or Veltman/Burn to come on should be great.

I’m desperately hope we don’t sell him in this window.

I was convinced that Duffy would leave this summer. He must have had an incredible pre season and is taking his opportunity perfectly. Fair play to him

Duffy played progressive passes to the midfield through the Watford press quite a few times yesterday.

Having him centrally allowed us to win the majority of the Watford punts from their keeper.

I don’t see Burn or Veltman getting a look in, in CD at the minute when fit.

Veltman likely to be deployed as RWB however don’t see Gross being dropped either. A good problem to have

Yes, this.

Hopefully carries on applying himself. Looks like Potter wants to fix him and Big Shane wants to be fixed, which is lovely all round. Perhaps when we have fewer injuries we'll see him whenever some proper "put your head in" defending is needed with the option of Veltman or Burn if needed. Whatever happens later on this season he was magnificent yesterday.

Let's not get silly.

They are very different with very different attributes.

I can instantly think of the goal at Elland Road ain't happening with Shane on the ball.
I'm sure there's plenty more.

As said already there's probably an equal amount of points dropped because we were lacking the presence of Duffman.
Leeds, the two games White bothered to put 100% effort into.

In an interview on the official site last week, he said he had changed things on and off the field. If he has cleaned his act up off the field then he will be like a new signing..

Duffy is a confidence player, and right now his must be sky high. 2 great performances. Fully expecting a shocker at some point, but right now he's made Ben White a distant memory.

Wish I could be arsed to look back to see which of our knowledgeable fans said Duffy would never pull on a Brighton shirt again as he can't play Potterball (hate that phrase)... but I can't be bothered as I'm safe in the knowledge they don't know what they're talking about...

I'll put my hand up to saying that GP's style didn't suit him just before he left for Celtic. At the time it didn't - he couldn't pass a bar without going into it, let alone a football.

In many ways having a mare at Celtic is perhaps the best thing that could have happened to his career. It, and GP seem to have focussed him and changed him. Plus losing a parent must be very tough and those of us who read the Facebook group back in the day know that Duffy Sr was a decent man. Maybe he's now playing for him as well as mourning him.

Either way, great to have him playing the way he did yesterday. While there are probably 19 other teams in the division who press better that Watford the goal and much of his defending was outstanding.

Honestly. Thought Duffy did as much on the ball today that was equal to white last year. Webster playing in the white position was far superior to him. We are very very lucky.

I've never gone with the hive mind that Duffy can't pass the ball.
He can it just isn't his strong point, it's not why you'd sign him as a defender.

Webster was very active going forward, but that's hardly news.
Maybe he was able to go forward more as those duties aren't shared and The Dufster will never be further than halfway.

Hell of a header from half way :)

But I agree, Webster kept popping up in the right corners with decent crosses into the box which was a key part of our play yesterday. Knowing Duffers is there covering defense would give him much more freedom to do that.

Although I'm quite happy to say I was talking out of me arse saying he's a better defender than Webster but he's certainly better than BDB.

A lot of the time we were playing a traditional 4 at the back when defending with March at left back and Webster at right back. Both full backs were pushing on which gave Sarr something to think about, while Bissouma was covering the centre backs much as Henderson does at Liverpool when their FBs go forward.

In general our tracking back was first class yesterday. Not only Biss but there was a moment when we lost the ball from a corner attacking the North and MacAllister was on his bike, tracking back 40 yards to win it back. All of that gave Webster and March some licence to be used as attacking weapons.
