Britain has a noble tradition of direct action. History has shown that even small groups of committed protestors can change government policy.

If only more people turned off their TVs and stood up for what they believed in.

Bollocks!

Your generalising about a whole political movement. Sure some greens are against falmer, but so are lots of other people from all political persausions.

They were looking to shut down drax in order to make a statement about climate change and raise awareness, not as a serious attempt to reduce global CO2. We may only prodice a small percentage of global CO2 but all western industrialised countries such as the UK (the birthplace of the industrial revolution) have enjoyed all the benefits, and now have to LEAD THE WAY in setting an example to countries such as China and India.

So shutting down efficient power plant makes more sense than tackling some of the worse polluters. Most of the protestors are also the same people who oppose the only real alternative to fossil-fuels, nuclear energy. Also remember that coal plays an important role for security of supply without it we would have had power cuts last winter, meaning potential deaths of the elderly and other sectors of society with fuel poverty. Drax operates by buying the right to operate through the EU emissions trading scheme. Its just a gimmick from protestors who never come up with realistic solutions.

Of course none of us on NSC are squandering electricity. Is the heart of Shakespeare Country Warwick Uni by any chance?

That power plant produces something like 7% of the UK's electricity, if they had succeeded there could have been instant power cuts accross the country without warning, that could have taken days to be fixed. This would have included lots of hospitals, people on dialysis machines, etc etc. Not really the same sort of connotations as the Falmer marches.
