Cheers!

Do people still tell you Mr Martin's gay the second you arrive at the school?

Poor guy, had to put up with that as far back as I can remember! Probably a total urban myth too...

I liked Mrs Mottershead ever since she told one of the kids in my English class to stop bullshitting her and get his homework in. Cue stunned silence but utter respect from class.

Mrs Black, ohmygod, arse the size of China and the only thing she liked talking about more than her delinquent brat son Bobby was her sex life....jesus, I'm still traumatised from the thought of her humping away at Mr Black.

Has to be said I always thought Triggs was better, never really got on with Rix but RIP. I left in 1991, and remember all the teachers mentioned, feeling old now that a PE teacher who taught me had passed away. Makes me worried for myself, I'll have to give up teaching.

I think Mr Triggs was probably the good guy in their "good cop: bad cop" regime, but only for the purposes of making 13 year olds go on lengthy cross country runs. Mr Ricks was a good enough bloke really, and it's a terrible shame to lose someone at only 55.

At least you lads didn't have to put up with Miss Smyth for PE. It was years before we managed to convince her that curtains in the changing room showers were more an essential than an outrageous luxury.

Funny, I always thought Stirling was an arrogant arse, while Rix was pretty fair.

I went back a couple of years ago. My old tutor (Mr. Alexander) was still on good form, as was Ms. Childs. Mr.Evans is always worth talking to. Clarke was & is a wanker. He once told me I would add up to nothing. Tosser.

Seems like Edna was in the year below. Don't recognise the name though :lolol:

My mate Will got suspended for punching Mr. Martin. He is outrageously gay now - there can be no argument there

I really liked Mr Alexander. If we ever fancied a bit of relaxation time, we'd ask him at the start of the lesson about his trip up Mount Etna.

He'd willingly launch into his story, leaving us to sit back, play noughts and crosses or something and accomplish precisely nothing until the lesson was virtually over. Easy days.

I was at Downlands from 1988 to 1993, and before that at St Lawrence in "local village for local people" Hurstpierpoint.

Mr. Alexander was quality. A briilliant tutor & great teacher.

I went from 87 to 92. Went to Albourne before then, though I lived in Hurstpierpoint that whole time. Don't know why I ended up going to Albourne

you were obviously too posh for St Lawrence!

My family still live in Hurst for some reason. It was very daunting to go from a small village primary school to secondary school in Hassocks, which we viewed as full of townies!

all those really streetwise kids from Burgess Hill and the like...

Hasnt Mrs Jenkins my old English Teacher also passed on ?
A few years ago I thought, along with my old Maths teacher forgotten her name now, both of no age also ?

Mrs Jenkins died the year before I got there I think.

It's weird, I went to a school reunion of sorts a few months back and we got talking about a guy in our year who died in a climbing accident while on his gap year. It was just really odd thinking that we were all there talking about our school years etc yet one of our class never made it past 18. I would still instinctively think of him as the same age as me, but he'll always be 18.

Sad, and probably far too deep and meaningful for this time of day, but it just stuck in my mind.

At work - probably
Rix and Triggs did make a good double act - although Triggs did wind me up sometimes but that was no excuse me tackling him from behind in a pupils vs Teachers game in the 5th year!!!

Triggs' predessor Austin, managed to get Eric Steele along to coach us once - happy days!

I left Downlands in Cup Final year '83 and btw the rumours were that Alexander was gay!!!
