Adam Virgo now tells us that we tried to get Breacker (sp?) in as coach but he decided to go to Charlton so Booker and White were left to fill the gap - that in itself is absolutely outrageous and PARTLY explains our current predicament.

Part of the problem was that Slade was building for the mid-to-long term whilst Bloom wants almost immediate success!

If we really want to get into the Championship in just over 18 months we need to invest in the squad NOW and to compete with the Leeds, Norwichs et al then we need severel players in the £1 million+ class.

Its that simple.

Tony Bloom might be an experienced businessman and a "winner" on pretty much every level BUT he's never been chairman of a football club before. Unfortunately he doesn't have the same deep pockets as Abramovich and can't just "buy" success!

Posts like this really do worry me. I guess it was inevitable once the chairman bankrolled the stadium, people are immediately demanding million pound signings like we've suddenly got some kind of bottomless pit of cash to draw on and can start LAVISHING it on a bankbusting squad.

Can people please bear in mind that with million pound players come HUGE outlays in wages and very large long-term financial commitments. Not to mention every other bugger in the squad knocking on the door with his agent, asking for a pay hike in line with the latest bloke who's just arrived on the scene with a diamond stud in his ear.

We are NOT a Leeds, neither do I EVER want us to be.

Well, I'm not sure Bloom was ever 100% convinced about Slade, so maybe he thought he'd save the Booker and White clean-out for when he was replacing RS? Just a thought and I have absolutely no backup on this - just a homsepun theory like....

hmm, have we got the money in reserve? If not Bloom, I am sure moves are afoot. Appreciating of course, money doesn't buy success, but it makes your quest a whole lot more attainable.

A quote from Geraint Williams Leyton Orient manager after playing Southampton last Saturday.

On Ricky Lambert:

"But at the end of the day those were two million pounds finishes and that's what you get when you pay a million pounds for a striker."

Yes he does know what he is doing. But you can;t clean up the mess that Dick Knight left behind overnight. He is getting there though. The clowns have gone, so hopefully a proper set up will be in place soon.

Could you please explain how it is 'simple' to miraculously get hold of 'several players in the £1 million+ class'.

I usually agree with your posts but "mess that DK left behind"?

Wilkins sacking, Adams appointment, Non league medical set up, non league coaching staff. Oh and a squad seriously under funded.

Oh right. Dick ran the rule over the rest of the board, despite not being the majority shareholder?

You say non-league medical setup... How has Bloom changed this?

Not happy with hounding yet another manager out of the club now our chairman is in the firing line. Let's forget that without this guys money our stadium would be nothing more than a desktop screen saver. Sometimes i wonder if we have some of the most retarded fans in the football league

Indeed, but brace yourself for the Knight lickers to point out how we wouldn't have a club without him, which I agree with, but why relevant now, wait for it....

So Slade thought Tim Breacker would help - he's right, he would have done but chose Charlton over us and, right now (and that's all that counts in the modern game) they're the place to be - a team on the up again and likely to be playing in the Championship next season.

As for Bloom, he's the third generation of Albion board members so hardly coming to the party wet behind the ears - I'm sure his old man has given him plenty of advice.

As a fan I think Bloom's been great - he's bankrolling the stadium, he's given Slade a fair crack of the whip but has acted before the season's became a total write-off. Slade leaves the club in a better position that when he found it and has a successful fire-fighting job on his CV. The only losers right now are Booker and White.

Perhaps not, but its a work in progress (or at least it was), and these things tend to take a bit of time. Do you really think we are in a position to chuck millions of pounds on a couple of players ? Bloom is not Abramovich. He's already stumped up more cash than I believed possible, and throwing multi-millions at the team is STILL no guarantee that we'll pulverise this division this season or next.

Seems to be the culture now though. Expectation through the roof, patience at an all-time low.

Sure Bloom knows what he is doing but he also has experience from Perry and Brown + I'm sure he has a few others with a bit of knowledge at his side as well
