I was up in the loft finding the Christmas decorations when I came across the box for the game Kick Off as shown below.

I use to take it for the train trips to away matches in the late 80's. I can remember we had tournaments and it use to pass the time away.

Does anyone remember the game and does anyone remember playing it on the way to matches?

Unfortunately only the box remains I guess the cards and the board are lost somewhere on British rail

what did you have to do?

The board was made up of squares and you had a number of playing cards each. As you can see on the picture the card is nine squares forward. You took it in turns moving the ball to try and score. There were also free kick cards, goalkeeper cards (if you had one of those you saved a goal if the opponent got it in the net), penalty cards etc.

I think each game took about ten minutes (depending on how much had been drunk)

I thought you might be talking about the old Sega game then, but I'm glad you're not, cos the board game was quality entertainment for young and old alike. I'm sure, if I looked hard enough, that I would find it in my loft somewhere too.

I had that! (think I might still do somewhere...). I also had Cup Final where you had two men on each side, about twice the size of subbuteo men who had a button at the back that you had to press to make the leg swing. There was one with a normal foot and one with a "chipping" foot with a sort of scooped shape.

Wouldn't believe I'm only 27... bloody cheapskate parents not getting me a computer

I had Kick Off - lost my original so bought another one at a car boot a few years back for 50p. Marvellous entertainment, ran a whole league once, used to judge who scored by whereabouts on the board the shot came from.

Still got it somewhere I think. I used to play the game with my younger brother (think I got it for Christmas in 1988). Tried to run a league with it also, but got fed up and ran out of time. I suppose these old games will become collectors' items eventually, I can't see PlayStation, GameBoy, etc, having the same interest when they become obsolete.
