We bought the last one of these at Richer Sounds in Reigate this morning for £79.95. Problem is, we've just gone to fit it and realised the HD ready tv only has one HDMI port which is in use already for the HD VM box! Does that mean we can't use it until we get a new telly with more slots, or is there another way of connecting it? If so, which cables do we need to buy?

You just need an HDMI splitter. I need to get one myself and there are many different types of HDMI splitter around, from the £27 ones that Asda do to the ones from http://www.djsoundkit.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=T115HA for £3.11!

Or if your TV has component inputs you can probably run the blu ray player through there, it's still gonna be high def.

Ah yes, that would be easier.

This ^ is two component slots. You may only have one row of three three slots.

You will also need the audio cable (regular red and white slots).

Might be able to get one like this:

Or can just use:

Surely hdmi is the BEST connection to use for high-def tellybox action, not component.

It is the best, but if you only have one slot, and two high units, which do you use, the V box for general viewing, or the blu ray for high def movie experience?

You sort out an extra hdmi slot PDQ. Otherwise you've paid all that money for the BEST, but are having to make do with secondary connections. That is quite clearly unacceptable, in anyones book.

Not always, no.

It is the best

No it's not.

And even when HDMI is better, the chances are that none of us relative laymen would notice any difference between them (assuming same hardware at either end of the cable, and the same content).

Oh well I just don't know any more.
PS3 and HD box (when it arrives next week) will both be connected via hdmi though, thats for sure.

If you have 2 slots, I would just pipe the virgin through the Component as there is what, 1 high def channel on that? whereas the Blu Ray is primarily going to be showing HD content.

Yes, that makes sense. He has sourced a splitter today, and we bought the HDMI cable yesterday, so hopefully this afternoon we will have a fully functioning blu ray player

I do intend to buy a bigger telly very soon, which will be full HD (and will make sure it has 2 or more HDMI slots!) so I will be pleased that we can at least use the blu ray player in the meantime

Thank you for all your help guys x

The hdmi cable may need connecting again or you might have to configure the audio path from the dvd player. Check the dvd player instruction manual as the default setting could be video out via hdmi and audio out via analogue/digital cable and this needs changing.

Should video out and audio out both be through HDMI?

We have run an HDMI lead from tv to connector box, and another HDMI cable from box to blu ray player. Is that right?

Sorry to bounce this thread again, just to say that my Blu-ray player arrived today, the one i asked about at the start of thread. Just off out to get a dvd now, as the Band of Brothers yet to arrive! did play a normal dvd, independance day for a few seconds and was darned good picture. Sadly my budget home theatre system wont be any use with it so will have to get receiver and speakers in the long term. Set the blu ray up ok, bound to have questions though so thanks in advance!!!
