Does anyone like the lop-sided midfield/only one winger system??

Getting beyond a joke. The three central midfielders and only one winger is simply not working and hasn't done this season.

When we play with two wingers we look great. Why are we still persisting with only one? It just makes us so predictable (i.e. EVERYTHING has to go through Noone).

I don't get it to be honest, but Poyet has pretty much consistently played it. Based on our squad, and to sound like a stuck record, I still think 4-2-3-1 is our best shape. But lots of injuries are killing our creative midfield...he has to give Caskey a chance soon

I entirely agree.

Seemed to work okay at Cardiff, mind.

I've been saying this since week 1 despite us beating Doncaster. We can't sit back and invite teams on, we need to attack and the best attacking teams have midfielders making forward runs past the strikers. Lualua can't buy game time and Buckley who looks promising at getting in behind has had bad luck. Noone is awesome at running at people but never gets in behind.... CMS left midfield? He's soon gonna get frustrated!!

When have we looked great with two wingers? Remind me

First half against leeds... oh that's right, our midfield was run over in that first half, and switching to one winger in the second half with noone coming off at half time turned the game around (until a rush of blood to the head for Ankergren)

(your post seemed the most appropriate to raise this point with, I understand you're not saying two wingers is the way forward)

I was having this very debate with the guy stood next to me today. he offered the explanation that we dont have two central midfielders good enough to hold the centre of the park. Hence needing three.

We are too weak in midfield to carry a 2nd winger perhaps when Buckley and Vicente are fit we shall be stronger and more attack minded. Ist we need to hold the midfield with somebody stronger than we are using at the moment along side of Bridcutt.

It served us pretty well last season! Not really the best time to make an argument against it after losing away at the best side in the division following a poor penalty call and silly sending off.

And 0 shots on target and 40+ % possession!

Surely a 4-3-3 system would solve that problem perfectly? Noone/CMS/Paynter/Buckley/Barnes/LuaLua occupying the front three with natural midfielders in the middle.

Except for the goal at Pompey perhaps, all of CMS' goals have stemmed from play on the wings. I think that says something about how to use him effectively.

No one on the wing (4-4-2)

Yep. You can only play on one wing at one time. It went Fox-shaped this afternoon. But of you are an England* supporter ...

How about the gloom ... How did the youth team get on this morning against the Orient ?

(I couldn't care a shit I come from Sussex and I would prefer UDI)

4-3-3 has to have a B2B midfielder with talent.
