He called Ron Challis several kinds of wanker - probably. Hence the chants 'We hate Challis and we hate Palace...' He stuck his fingers up to the crowd at Stanford Bridge, and threw a fiver into the dressing room, saying to Malcolm Allison 'here take that, that's all your team's worth...'
Then he went on to manage Crystal Palace. Albeit a few years later after he had got us two promotions.
Mullery is an embarrassment - have you heard him on Sky? Complete tosser.
It did make me laugh when they had him commentating on the BHA and Palace 0-0 game at the Withdean. Someone asked him about the rivalry and he just mumbled about the close proximity etc etc. He won't even admit he started the trouble and has been responsible for me having a few close shaves at the GG over the years.
You can see all the other Sky people think he's an arse.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Given the fact that Mullery had an almost unlimited budget his efforts in getting us into the top flight, whilst good, pale into insignificance compared to the work of Messers Gritt, Adams, Taylor MKII, McGhee and even the sadly underrated Barry Lloyd who got success with their hands tied behind their backs.
Mullery was a big mouthed fool who wasted a lot of money. For every Lawrenceson he got us a Maybank and a Sayer. He proved just how good he was in his second stint here when there was no money. He's now a sad little git who gets paid to spout utter tripe.
rubbish
the teams he put out from 77-79 were the best albion sides i've ever seen and played the most exciting football I ever saw..................................................
and if you weren't there then you missed something miles better than the last three years..........................
Goodwin, Clough & Taylor, and later Taylor all had the same opportunity to do something special at BHA and failed for one reason or another, but it took Mullery to put it all into place.
tend to agree about the mullery bamber era ernest.
However, how BHAEXPRESS can think of LLoyd as underrated is amazing. Under BL we played some of the worst football I have ever seen...Bristol Rovers Away at Bath 4-0 anyone? And he dropped Dean saunders to play Richard Tiltman....good manager he was then?
