Apparently something like 1 in every 12 million spam messages gets a positive response. Considering the cost is minimal to get a computer to send the messages out then it is probably worth it for the spammer.

They are f***ing irritating though!

I am waiting for some gold bullion to be delivered to me. Mr Papaya Um Bongo promised me that we were friends and god was on my side. I've been waiting for months and had to wire some cash for his eventual release from captivity. He is a political prisoner, don't you know!

He's a bloody liar! He said he was MY friend.

What do you mean 'fall for it'? I've recently been having correspondance with Mr. Trevor Ubungu and am just awaiting the transfer of $1.5m into my account. There have been loads of hold ups though; I've had to send £2000 over to Mr Ubungu to get a clearance certificate from the bank which took a while. He's a very nice chap though.

I think its more funny the people that get done for it then go on the local news to tell their story. Dont think I would want anyone to know what a mug I had been.

You'd have to be the sort of person who sees a lobotomy as a good idea to fall for one of those emails

I had an e-mail some time ago from a lovely Russian girl who's mother was quite ill. I just hadn't realised until then how expensive some medicines are in that country. I haven't heard from her for a while.I have been worrying that her mother might not have got better.

They generate "sucker lists" comprised of people who respond to such emails. Once you've responded to one, you can expect your details to be sold on to every other perpetrator of such scams that can be found, and to be bombarded with similar requests for eternity. Or until you move house and cancel your email account.
