I was surprised by my own reaction to Englands defeat to N.Ireland today, and I put it down to being over here for so long. But I find myself not as passionate as I was about the Ashes even last week. I love sport, but I think it's because I've finally realised the woman I'm with is the woman I want to marry. I've had doubts for a bit, but I now know. There will be no proposal in the near future, but realisations like this make you realise what's important. And Beckham playing a holding role really doesn't matter to me.

Not sure I understand what you're saying, but I think I'm the same, but reverse of you - I'm here for someone who I couldn't imagine being without, and although I'm still Australian (and people think I'm mad for being here) and I always will be - who I spend my life with is far higher up the list of important things in life than that....

I must say I cheered when Northern Ireland scored. I was happy for them. What a laugh when our bunch of pverpaid prima-donnas get beaten by a team who want it more.

It's a funny old game really. A good mate from North London was a dyed in the wool Gooner for all of his younger years, used to drag me to Highbury (where he was a year on year season ticket holder) whenever I was up in London on matchdays, never tired of telling me how he almost threw up when Mickey Thomas scored at Anfield in 1989 to win the league etc. etc. Then overnight his passion for football waned, then died and he happily lives Stateside with no interest in football whatsoever, probably wouldn't even be able to pick Thierry Henry out in a line-up if his life depended on it.

Personally I look out for England, but don't have the level of commitment to the national team that I do for the Albion, and as I posted yesterday, after Northern Ireland scored I was rooting for them to hang on and win.

same here. My son was disgusted - but we'll qualify anyway - and if we don't - it has saved a lot of embarrasment - especially if we can't beat NI.

I was not suprised that Engalnd lost to NI. NI reminded alot of the albion when we played the so called bigger clubs last season, defended, defended then nick the winning goal.

Also Lawrie Sanchez took Wycombe far in the FA cup a few years back and nocked out some prem teams. So he knows how to set up a team to win over premier players.
