i enjoy the accident calls, in that I see how long they last before hanging up.

They don't usually last beyond

When was the accident
yes but when in the last 3 years
You must have that detail as you told me you have the file
Which vehicle was it

I have loads more questions lined up but never get to ask them

This seems to work as after a couple of attempts they give up on me, and I have peace and quiet for some months

I do "Which accident? I have been involved in something like 15,000 in the past 3 years."

After a few moments silence, I tell them I am chief underwriting officer for an insurance company.

It normally doesn't take long for them to hang up.

Silly old bat

Is anyone registered with the Telephone Preference Service.? It does filter out quite a few of these calls, but not all. Worth it because its free.

Registered ages ago and over the last few months the small number of landline calls trying to sell me something or other has more or vanished to zero. However I am getting more and more calls going to my mobile which is a right pain. Virtually all come through as legitimate uk based numbers and the location name appears on my phone. No doubt some clever bit of kit is used to route calls from other countries via the UK.

I sometimes go with "TERRY. TEEEERRRRRYYYYY. IS THAT YOU ? TERRY YA WANKER"
Whatever they say I insist that they're my best mate Terry having a laugh with me.

Answer enough times and you might actually get a Terry on the other end; this would really freak them out.

Them "We're phoning about compensation for the accident that wasn't your fault"

Me "Blimey, news travels fast"

Them "Could you give me more details"

Me" It's a bit embarrassing but I shat myself in Wetherspoons last weekend after six pints and a prawn chimichanga from a street food stall"

Them "Errr......how is that an accident?"

Me"Well I didn't do it on purpose did I?"

They usually hang up at this point.
