I love Brighton but I buy into the (wanky at times) culture that goes with it. There's a huge cultural apartheid in this town and nothing is ever done to address the problem.

As someone who grew up in Worthing and now a parent in Brighton, I can also see the benefits of bringing your children up in Worthing or some other place as opposed to Brighton. Bristol or Edinburgh are probably the only other places I'd choose to live in the UK.

In answer to the OPs question, most definitely yes. You get some right bell-ends from Brighton who seem to think that they are better than other people. You even get Brighton fans who give the impression that they are better fans because they come from Brighton rather than another part of Sussex (mention no names but I expect you can guess who I'm talking about).

Indeed.

Most of the people that walk around with their noses up in the air probably where not born and bred in our town , but like to call themselves brightonians cause its the fashionable thing to do . Like calling their offspring something stupid like moondust pixie vomit ... and eating wood shavings , whilst hubby works in the city , we all sit in the park with our legs crossed praying to the god of vegans...TOSSERS THE LOT OF EM...

I personally would not want to live anywhere else in the country. For me it's the best place by a mile, however annoyingly people have been catching onto this (particuarly DFLs) for the last 10 years or so and hence the property prices are ridiculous, particualry considering there are very few well paid jobs in the City.

I don't think there is a snobbish view from residents however. I think in general we are some of the most tolerant and accepting folk going. I think the majority are just very very proud of our amazing City.

I was very impressed with Brighton after studying there for two months, which isn't very long. I would be very proud of it if I lived there

Don't knock it - these f***ing hippies are one of the lifebloods of the city.

Them, and charm-free Stag & Hen parties...

brighton is brilliant which is why I moved back.........for example, last week I:

-spent time on the beach/ridiculously busy seafront area
-went to devils dyke and had a brilliant countryside walk
-ate at two brilliant restaurants
-drank in some brilliant pubs

what more can a man ask for?

Brighton pisses me off. It could be a lot better than it already is and property prices are ridiculously high considering the distinct lack of employment opportunities within this fair city.

as a service engineer, i visit numerous households in the brighton and hove area.
the vast majority of people are fine but on several occasions you can tell the people dont want me in their house, regard me as beneath them but realise that without me whatever it is that is broken will stay broken if they dont deal with me.
i get the feeling that this fuels their contempt because they are relying on some OIK to get them out of lumber.

the attitude some customers have towards me is laughable some times, these people generally have to wait several days for a part to become available....even if i have one on my van.
i win in the end

The thing that turns me off, and I've said it before, is how much Brighton people blow their own trumpet - It's a decent place, but it's not all that, Makes me cringe when I read how it's the coolest, most vibrant, most laid back (definitely not), city ever ever ever... And then people compare it with Barcelona....

but it is the best City around
