[Albion] DNA My heritage and Ancestry

I have been researching my ancestry and took a DNA test. My DNA matched with two half siblings both on myheritage and ancestry.

One born in Worthing in 1962 and the other born in London 1962, my dad had an affair.

I know that one of my siblings is an Albion fan. I don't have the bottle to contact the person directly at the moment but would like to.

Has any fellow northstanders unearthed some skeletons whilst researching ancestry and what actions have they taken.

Not so much skeletons

My mum was born in Croydon, so I could've gone to the darkside in another time 😱

I should add my dad was born in Hastings and took me to my first Albion game
I feel better now!

My wife has found out her grandfather (who wasn’t around much) had two families - think it caused more problems at the other end

I found a few and I have disclosed them! I don't judge what I find, just record it as facts (as far as the facts can be established). It's worked OK up to this point.

I’m no biologist but that sounds like more than one affair to me.

My wife found three half siblings through one of these sites ( she already knew her father was married to someone who wasn't her mum.) She was contacted by an intermediary who passed her on to her niece and to cut a long story short she is now a fully integrated member of the family having been accepted by all her half siblings and their families. Doesn't work for everyone but what do you have to lose ?

I've done one of those DNA tests as to where you originate, hoping to find something exotic but 85% British/Irish with a few percent Spanish/Portuguese and the rest general northern europe

My parents split when I was three, and there were three of us kids, but both my parents went on to remarry. My natural dad went on to have a further two children (I didn't keep in touch with him, but my eldest sister did), so I know I have two half siblings, but I've never had the slightest inclination to trace/meet them.

Besides they're from Burgess Hill

I would like to dig around. I tried about 15 years ago on the biggest site but got stuck and found I was paying money to scroll through hard-to-read records. Is it easier now? Can anyone vouch for a good site?

On my mums side we are Hove peasants (great grand dad was a wood cutter with loads of kids). The family name was 'Coomber' and I gather I have dozens of relatives in Hove and surrounds. Never heard of any miscreants or blaggards. Just uncomplicated working class folk. A project to investigate for post retirement.

On my dad's side.... London. There were two siblings born in the late 1890s early 1900s, and two more (including himself and a sister) 25 years later. Apparently the same mother and father. The grand dad went from docker (Millwall) to pub landlord and chairman of the licensed victualler's via a stint in the Boer war. He (or his missus) is where the autism comes from. I'd like to know how he had such weird life. Perhaps I have already answered that :lolol:

This very interesting, I'm not sure that I couldn't follow it up.
If you think with a "what have I got to lose" attitude that may help.
The only downside I can see is that the Albion fan sibling is one of those annoyingly posters on here that thinks they know it all!

Good luck Top banana, I hope you have the courage and desire to contact them.

I did a DNA test. I originate from the Hartfield area. My grandfather used to work on Blackpool beach. It's in the family.

Unless someone here has new info, ancestry.com is still the most comprehensive for eras post first UK census. It is very time consuming, hence why retired folk love doing it. We found it best to purge for a month sub’s, then cancel. One hellish thing for me was checking out Smith‘s in East London in the 1910’s.

Three of my family’s branches were rural folk from Kent and Sussex in the 1800’s, who moved to large towns like Brighton in the latter part of that century. Obviously the norm then. One set of descendants rented in the 1870’s in Warleigh Road off Ditchling Road, I had a look, interesting to know my kin were in a particular house 150 years ago. The other branch were well off in industrial West Yorkshire, I‘ve had some contact with them all my life, I must take up the invite to visit.

My paternal grandfather was a weapons grade ****.

I know more than enough just from reading Nanas divorce papers dated 1962. Even his mother wrote him off.

I don't, but would like to know who my maternal grandfather was. My mother was adopted.

I know the names of both of my half siblings. Due to privacy laws it would be unwise for me to identify them. I will strike up the bottle sooner or later.

It would be ironic if he/she is an annoying poster 🙄 and I have stood/sat next them at the goldstone/withdean/Amex.

I was at Moulsecoomb Senior School in the 70's and Susan Coomber was in my class, any relative of yours ?
