As we all know by now, especially after today how much the players appreciate us,and vice versa.

On the first game of the Season against Reading the players were asked if they would like to travel up to the game on Match day, they responded by saying that they would prefer to stay the night in a Hotel in Reading the night before and prepare as most Clubs do.

The Club said Ok to this and so they spent the night in a Hotel.

It turns out now that the Club has refused to pay for the Hotel the players stayed in and each player now has to pay £50.00 each for there rooms!

Now the players are up in arms about this as they want to stay in this League as much as we do,but what are the Club trying to do to the Players morale when things like this happen?

Over to you Ernest!!

I expect I will get more abuse about this story but it is true!

If the club want the best out of the players then treat them correctly.

I dread to think what Ernest will say about this.

Over night stay for a trip 2 hours away ?
Are we loaded as a club ?
Did they stay over night before todays game ?
I say we should treat our players well but get real.Do the really need to stay over night for an away game so close.
Perhaps the club will pay for me to stop at an hotel in Sunderland.

Please read my thread closely,I stated the Club said Ok to the players staying overnight!

They didnt say "NO"when they had the option did they?

Why? It will be his usual, predictable Dick Tight bolleaux...if he can manage something remotely original I'll eat my butter beans!

I can't believe this story

if there is an element of truth to it and all of the players have been asked to chip in £50 each I would guess that something happened to incur an additional cost and all the players have been asked to contribute

I can believe that the club offering to put the players up in a hotel, promoted team, first away game, make 'em feel a bit spoilt, that sort of thing.

I would think that it was offered, rather than being the formal arrangement because, as has been said, it's not exactly Carlisle away is it.

But as I've said above, this £50 each figure sounds more as if it's a 'right lads, subsequent to that night in the hotel in Reading we want £50 off of each of you to pay for ........XYZ'

.....(although I don't think you would necessarily use the word 'subsequent' when talking to a footballer)

I must admit, I heard this from somebody else as well.

I just don't think the club should have given them the choice. I'm sure the players would prefer to stay close to the ground rather than travel up on the day, that makes sense. However, if the club can't afford it, just don't give the players that option.

No it's not an issue Lord B, it was just something that happened, the players by all accounts have laughed it off.

It certainly hasn't created dissent in the camp as the title of this thread suggests.

Remembering some ancient but absolutely accurate gossip, this won't be the first time the players were asked to contribute to something that some of them might have thought was coming for nowt.

But then who hasn't experienced something similar at work? And who hasn't grumbled about it? However, a few grumbles is hardly "dissent in the camp" and I'd be more worried if the players didn't behave like wot us hoi-polloi do in the same circumstances. I'm prepared to let Virgs play the immortal for a couple of days but I'd rather the rest of 'em remained human!
