Went to Brighton this morning the town of my birth, yes I am a real Brighton fan, sorry but Brighton is in need of a bath, as I strolled round the filth and the smell of piss in shop doorways :nono: :nono: '
Thank god I moved out,.
Dirty old town just a dirty old town.

Yup, same manky old town it always was.

Was just thinking the same thing this morning on the sea-front.

The bandstand by the West Pier is rusting and rotting, same as the bus shelters all along the promenade. Wouldn't take much more than a lick of paint to put it right but the council don't give a f***, neither do the get-rich-quick Londoners who only move between their overpriced Living Space in the *cough* New England Quarter and the nearest Starbucks and the station. They're all right, Jack.

Yep.I'm Hove, actually, but it makes me sad to look at some parts of the town(s) when I visit.

A dirty weekend in Brighton is too literal these days.

Where's yer council tax money going?

Only the Albion keeps me attached to the town of my birth.
Having read the whole thread, may I just say Bollox!

Brighton is now twee and gentrified. It was a bit run down 15 years ago, it is not now.
My memories of the town go back to the late 1950s.

But then, Ewan MacColl (Kirsty's dad), who actually wrote it, put on vinyl before anyone else - and nearly 20 years before the Dubliners did.

And, as someone else has pointed out, it's actually about Salford.

Is the correct answer. I would have jumped in with this earlier, but I couldn't remember his christian name!

And didn't Kirsty get The Pogues to record it purely to piss her father off?

I've never heard that, but if true, I should imagine it backfired spectacularly.

It would have made him a truckload of royalties, to soothe any pissedoffness he might have felt!
