FRUIT OF THE BLOOM
Shocking, they really need to do something about the offiside rule at the end of the season.

er, hum, getting back to the point of the thread.....

it was just a complete farce. Is this really the law, can a player really be clearly off-side, hang around a bit, then get passed the ball and score?

If so, maybe we should start doing it, might be our only chance of staying up!

Thank you.

That clearly isn't the law. It's about phases of play. The fist phase being the corner and then second being the header back into the box when he was clearly offside still. He was only onside when the guy passed to him but this cannot possibly count as a seperate phase of play? Can it?

f***ing Blatter needs to stop buggering about with the rules. The Swiss twat, what do they even know about football anyway? Alain Sutter was their only good player anyway, the chocolate munching, nazi gold hoarding, red cross impersonating tossers.

Surely the ref was right to give the goal as he was just applying the law it stands. However, it is causing confusion.

The lineman at the Watford game was getting abuse from the South Stand crowd for being late with his flag. it seemed to me he was waiting to see if the ball reached a player standing in an offside position.

The current offside law is making it hard to officiate a game

The New offside Rule

Interfering with play

If the attacker receives the ball either directly or courtesy of a flick on from a team-mate or a defender then they are offside.

This is because by receiving the ball they are interfering with play.

If the ball is cleared then that phase of play is over. That means that the attacker's initial offside position no longer stands.

If the ball is then played into the box again the attacker's new position is the one that counts.

Interfering with an opponent

If an attacker interferes with an opponent by either preventing them from playing or being able to play the ball, then they are offside.

One way of doing this would be to block the goalkeeper.

Or get in their line of vision as you can see above.

Gaining an advantage

Lastly if the ball is played into the penalty area and the ball rebounds off either a post, the crossbar or an opposing defender, then the attacker is offside.

This is because they have gained an advantage by being in that position.

It's f***ing balls. That goal should never be allowed to stand.

By the current law of the game, where it is up to the officials to determine 'phases of play' the descision was correct.

Unfortunately, the law is an ass.

The laws of the game should only be altered to improve the game. Tinkering with the Offside law has made the game worse.

I think we should revert to, any player in an offside position, regardless of whether they touch the ball, are standing still, running back onside, lying injured or dead are offside and the goal cannot stand.

It might well be. However my point was the ref was just applying the law as it stands. The law needs changing back to what it used to be.

the Villareal players came back from a offside position, Forlan was not active when the ball came over the defence, and he scored. So in a way the Linesman got it right.

Cobblers. He became active when he touched the ball, and as he benefited from being in an offside position previously, the goal shouldn't have counted. Utterly incompetent lining.
