I had a number of imaginary girlfriends that used to keep me awake at night!

Not so much a friend but an alter-ego of mine called Sean (my middle name) who I'd argue with over decisions I'd made and things that had happened, his criticism could be very constructive occasionally but he could be a total knob sometimes!

I think that's a bit harsh, some of the ladies from these publications became really good, reliable imaginary friends to me. They always did whatever I wanted them to do, without question or judgement, and they really showed a young boy what could be achieved with a vivid imagination and a desire to develop his ambidexterity. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that one or two of them have remained lifelong imaginary friends.
