Shearer was the greatest.
If he was born earlier he would have kept lineker put and if he was born later he would have kept out Rooney and Kane
Its just unfortunate timing for those strikers that were around when shearer was.

to be honest there was a lot of decent strikers around at the time- Shearer, Sheringham, Fowler, Ferdinand, Collymore, Sutton, Cole

with Shearer being the obvious standout it would have been a case of finding his ideal partner which was Sheringham so the other strikers around at the time didn't get a colossal amount of playing time

Andrew "don't call me Andy" Cole was consistently one of the top strikers in the Premier League and was the main forward for the best team in the country, and one of the best in europe for a sustained period and only managed to get 15 caps

Ian Wright had plenty of chances with England but - for a variety of reasons - failed to take them.

In an international career that spanned 7 years the only decent teams he scored against were Italy in Le Tournoi and Poland away. Anybody can score 4 against San Marino, 2 against Moldova and one against South Africa.

At the time I thought he was immature - a lot of that Arsenal team disappointed at international level with England.

Nothing to see here - he was just unfortunate to be around when the Shearer/Sheringham pairing was going great guns.
