Mystery solved?

It seems to have been a WW1 bomb store/test site:

This (below) from the British Pillbox club or somesuch. They only list currently standing buildings.

Makes sense because it looks pre WW2 and is extensively cratered as is the surrounding ground.

Someone mentioned connection to the cable house for the furnicular railway to Poynings...looks like everyone was a bit right.

Just found this picture of the Gun...obviously not the emplacement for it according to this photo.

My friend wanted to use this picture in a film about the South Downs, do you know of its source, or could you point me where you discovered it. I may also try the local history libary at the Dome complex.

Someone should really put that big baseball bat picture on the baseball thread.

The picture you want was pinched off E-Bay where it is being sold as an original postcard with a bid of about £1.60..
