You can win the ball and get a red card. Winning the ball has NOTHING to do with it. Delph's challenge is clearly excessive force. It is a red card. There is not even a debate to be had about it.

I think it's interesting that, as yet, Man City haven't said they are going to appeal it.
I can see where you're coming from about him changing his mind but to have done everything but wave the yellow card, and then give a red after being surrounded by Wigan players, ruins his credibility in the game. If he was that unsure, he should have left the yellow in his pocket while he considered the situation.

Good. You should be by the sounds of it if you think that challenge is ok. Football is a contact sport, but that does not mean you can endanger the safety of your opponents. Delph's challenge was studs up and had an excessive force. Just because you can throw yourself at a player with a ball does not mean you should make that challenge to compensate for your woeful lack of positioning!
