We were talking about this after the Millwall game.

We were mentioning how under-whelmed we felt about being top - not that we consider it a false position, but that because we were in this position last year and the wheels subsequently fell off, we're a bit more guarded about it. However, this year is different as we have a better squad, better equipped to deal with and play better in moments of adversity.

But we're still only seven matches into the season - a long way to go.

Still, it's nice to know that no Septembers have passed by under Gus' tenure where we haven't been top of our division at some stage.
I've just listened to Saturday's Roar.

It sounds like you could replay it and transfer the name Watford for Millwall, and you'll have the next show.

It's great to be top but we definitely need an attacking shake up.
It does feel like we are slipping into last years pit falls.

Eh?

CMS
Barnes
Dobbie
Orlandi
Buckley
Lua Lua
Lopez ?!
Vicente ?!

How much of a shake up do you want? We're ridiculously strong going forward now.

Lewes V Bognor it is then. I'm never going to get to a game at the Amex at this rate. Any ideas if the Millwall game has been rescheduled or what the possibilities are?

Yes but I wouldn't take anything for granted as the club have just released another of those game packages that include Millwall????

Totally agree.
I don't mean new players, I mean time to rotate out for, Lopez, Dobbie, Crofts et al.

I think Buckley for 70 mins is the only shoe-in.

Oh right, yeah well I think that'll start to happen. I really hope we see Lopez start a game soon.

Personally, I don't care who plays all the time we are winning.. let CMS and Barnes keep banging them in at one end and Bridge/El Abd/Greer/Saltor/Kuszchak stopping them at the other end :) Plenty of time in the season for the new boys to come on.

No, why should we wait until we lose before changing things around.

We hung on retreating badly against Millwall and by all accounts the same against Watford.
Playing the style of sideways footie that 'ruined' last season and CMS.

We've had a glimpse of the riches to come, why wait for the loses.
We have our best ever squad we need to use it.

Won both games though didn't we? I understand your wider point, but our defence is THAT good now that I don't see us slumping like last season at any point.

Yep all good.
We are saying the same thing.

I also can't see us slumping, because we are just too damn good.

But we are slipping back into old traits, and with our squad, what's the point in waiting till it's really broke before trying to fix it.

I'd say we owe both victories (I was only at Millwall) to Tommy K, because of the retreat by 4 of the 5 in our attacking unit.

That sounds like the football equivalent of Minority Report.

Not quite though.
To continue the MR analogy, the 'crimes' are beginning to be committed.

I don't image Gus is as happy with the performance v Watford and Millwall, as he was after Barnsley, Burnley and Sheff Wednesday (Wednesday ).

Both games, as with the 3 previous, we had the match completely under control.
But unlike the previous 3 somewhere around the 70 min mark it all went wrong. We ending up hanging on and thanking Tommy K for the points.

I know what you're getting at, but the previous two were both away and in this league you just need to try and grind out as many results as possible away from home.

I looked at my watch, when it was 16:15.
I looked because we were playing supreme football, and Millwall had 'left the building'.
5 minutes later it was all beginning to unwind.

Grinding wasn't coming into it at all.

But it's inevitable the home team are going to go all out. It didn't help that we had two subs forced upon us and a lot of tired looking players nearing the end as well. Add to that Millwall acting like thugs for the last half an hour and you can see why it's hard to get results away from home in this league.

Point of order: At this point last season we were not top. We dropped to 2nd place after a loss in our seventh game (v Leicester), on the 25th september 2011 we were 5th.

Secondly, at no point during that league one season were we off the top spot after reaching it. We reached the top spot after beating Wednesday, and lost it. Chances are we won't be top come kick off on saturday (huddersfield are home to watford, blackburn are away to charlton, both will probably be favourites, blackpool are away to cardiff, that could be tough, but there will be a reaction to the huddersfield game). So, that will be twice we've lost the top spot - two more times than when we won league one.

So, I don't think it's a case of deja vu for either seasons.

Wow Aker! Too much information. Your point of order misses the point. I just raised the point, that for the 3rd consecutive season at ABOUT this time we headed the table. One year we went on to win the league the next we fell away.

I would love to have a discussion with you on pure stats or any other mathmatical or computer science - but this time I would have been grateful for your opinion on the effect of the fixture list.

Yeah there is that to it, our subs certainly didn't help.

I guess I also should be factoring in my current expectation level, which is wholly unattainable.
That coming from NSC's resident pessimist.
I'd hate to think what the rest of you guys are going through.
