Trying to define what football fans are as opposed to football supporters or even football followers.

My definition at the moment is

Football Followers : Follow their team’s results and news.

Football Fans: Same as Followers but also look at the club website, join forums and buy merchandise (ie Shirt, scarf etc) and sometimes go to watch games, especially big games.

Football Supporters: as the above but also go to matches on a regular basis probably season ticket holders and go to away games plus buy programmes.

Then there is possibly the Anoraks: all the above and more plus they know a lot about the past of their club.

Would value your opinions on the above especially what you see yourself as.

Nice one

So you would agree with my definition then in relation to that perons (fan/follower/supporter) to a club.

Out of interest which one would you say you are in relation to B&HAFC ?

What about superfans?:jester:

true, just been reading tonight about a what you could call a superfan in someone named Gordon Sorfleet of Bury FC.

He was awarded UEFA European Fan of the year a few years ago.

Before that I did not even know UEFA had an European Fan of the year award.

I class football followers as fans that follow their team everywhere. i.e. go to most games home & away.

Thats where I would differ as I think that followers follow a teams activities in what they do but supporters actully contribute financially to the club which is also supporting them.

I would class you as a supporter and a very loyal one at that.

I think supporter is financial, i.e I don't go to every game but when i do i buy some Withdean wager ( for example) I buy all sorts of pony from the club shop and i'm happier buying a full price ticket than a half price one from a STH (sounds odd I know) but like i say i dont go to every game. but i am a SUPPORTER

A fan is like the kids that wear Chelsea shirts (ok they paid for them) but thats it

A Follower? what sort of arse kissin label is that?
