Sussex, by the sea
it is the height of trailer trash one up manship . . . .there was a pair of houses in north Lancing a few years back who had a lights war . . . .it seemed one guy won because he had a 10 foot fibreglass snowman illuminated on his lawn . . . . . .he'd never get any real snow, the heat radiating from his house made the climate more like Ethiopia mid summer !

they should make the displayers pedal for there vice . . .now that wopuld be a spectacle :lolol:

Yeah but if you lived in a place like Gillingham, you'd do anything you could to try and make the place look better wouldn't you, even if that involved planting a 10ft inflatable Santa Claus in your front garden, complete with singing snowman and eight luminous plastic reindeer?

Speaking of pikeys, I wonder if Chippy will be decorating his little caravan des res with lights this festive season?

brighton, actually
did my car once//

bevendean, and whitehawk (both in brighton) areas seem to do a lot.... other posher places just have one set piece, rather
than 'build our own' displays.

have seen one house in norwich drive, bevendean, that seems
to be the best (tackiest?) by far- the whole house is covered, and the garden is full of reindeer, snowmen as well - brilliant!

tackymeter rating - 12/10!

The best display in the area, and well worth a detour is in Peacehaven. It was on South Today a couple of years ago. It's signposted in from the main coast road and all the money goes to charidee....

Too far from the sun

There are two houses in Worthing that battle it out against each other every year now, they are brothers I beleive. Very impressive but brings the road to a standstill in the evenings with people from all over Sussex coming to see them!
Its like bloody Blackpool Illuminations!!

Rambo - are you by any chance referring to Cotswold Road in Durrington? The lights from those two are so bright you can see the glow in the sky about half a mile before the turn-off. Every year the kids nag me to take them there to see it.

Personally I think it's well tacky. Spiros Towers will NOT be decked out this way, not this year, not ever!

Is'nt Christmas supposed to be some religious occasion ?

I've got no problem with people decorating their homes (even though it does look a bit naff) - but for f***'s sake why do it in October and November ?

I had my first lot od Carol singers on November 25th ! and I'm not joking - they said they were just getting ahead of the rush. One of the kids even said he'd take a cheque.

Oh well - only a couple more weeks and there will be Easter Eggs in the shops.

bah humbug

I've just spent a day putting up our lights. I try to make it as tasteful as possible - some of the houses in Southampton look f***ing hideous.

My excuse is that i've got 4 children (14,11,3 and 1) who love it.

My problem is the totally un-coordinated approach to it, trying to have as many different colours and as many different types of flashing combinations on their houses.

BTW southstandandy, are you still up for that beer in Barcelona?

And that's just before they've put the lights up.
