Afternoon all!

I'm new to the NSC...just moved near Preston Park station after moving south.
Having trouble finding a decent pub to see live Sky and Setanta TV matches.

Even the ones with people watching the games lack proper football atmosphere. What's all that about? Am I just unlucky?!!! Please say I am!

So.......which boozers do you recommend -and why?

Cheers

In town I tend to go for the Nelson or the Queens Head. Nearer me there's the Lion and Lobster and the Conqueror. They have to be the best if you're an ale drinker :ascarf:

Ignore anything you may have heard about The Brewery Tap. On matchdays, it's as Albion a pub as you'll get. And much less snotty than the Crown & Anchor.

Cheers for the suggestions all! May try a few Sunday.

Was told a Firkin pub in town was a good choice for big TV games. Any comments?

Station good enough local pub, keen n lean barstaff and you get served ....fine for a match while having a pre Seagulls game pint of three, when a game may be on, or few afterwards..... but f-all atmosphere for Sky/Setanta matches any other time. :albion2:

Crown & Anchor ok for a pre-match.....defo more snotty, agreed. Anaemic! Saw an England game in there recently and walked out at halftime - lots of blokes apparently watching but bugger all emotion or real interest..probably chatting about state of mortgages/work, when the thing they "went to THE PUB for" was up there on the telly!!
Same night there were about 4 people in Preston Brewery Tap..and I'd have had that one down as a banker football fans hangout!

Um, game's SATURDAY?

It's been unhealthily quiet for the last couple of Saturdays for sure. But quality not quantity tho eh? Juke box is OK, you get served at the bar easy enough, the pool table's usually got nobody on it, and the natives are friendly. Even the NSC ones.

Certainly worth an hour of your time straight after the game, I'd have thought. If nothing else, you can hang your soggy matchwear on the radiators

Don't believe a word mr Hark posts the Tap is frequented by big geezers after the match who control the pool table and play big blokes rules. There is a drunken Scottish man who usually sits in the corner drinking scrumpy cider and occasionally playing pool with his big ugly pool partner who has to keep bailing him out of trouble. The Tap is best avoided unless you want to buy the pool players loads of drinks to keep them sweet.

One other rarely-mentioned fact about the Tap. The ex-keyboard player out of Sparks, y'know the SCAREY one, is a regular in there on match-days. Although he's put on a bit of beef since his Top Of The Pops days, he is easily recognisable by his trademark moustache, and is more than happy to sign autographs and reminisce about the old days.

Erm, it was about 8 years ago... assuming you mean the Font and Firkin? Now it's just the Font and it's a hole of a place. Went to watch an England game there and got shouted at for knocking some girl's shopping over when we scored.:jester:
