How much of a deal would you give him?

I would offer him a two year deal as it will give him a chance to build a side of his own.

If dont want Wilkins who would you have?

I'd give him a year, but if Frank Rijkaard is leaving Barca at the end of the season...

;)

I would agree with two years. The team is slowly getting there and they seem to be making the right noises about Wilkins.

I am pleased with our progress. Just need to get our home form sorted and we can make a push for the playoffs next season.

I don't really like him, but assuming he's going to get the job then he's got to have 2 years really - we need stability, and i don't want us to have an excuse for not making signings

Two years is fair enough but it should be done ASAP so the player contracts can be sorted early enough for us actually to get rid of the dead wood and not miss out on all the best available players to our divisional rivals, seems simple enough but it's something Mr Knight has struggled with for a few years.

Couldn't agree more with that

Ditto but I would substitute "dont like" for "still not sure of". No good changing now. He's made the bold step of bringing the kids in this season with varying amounts of success, he should be given the chance of establishing them as full time proffesional which is going to take 2 years at least I imagine.

I assume you mean as a manager. What don't you like about him?

Does it have anything to do with Loft? :jester:

Well, firstly, selection. Why doesn't he give the likes of Loft a chance? :jester:

In all serious, 'Don't like' is a bit strong. But i'm not particularly enthusiastic about him. I guess it's mainly because i felt we needed a new manager with lots of footballing contacts. The majority of signings that Wilkins has made have been from clubs with obvious links to us, Le Havre probably being the best example!

Also, i'm worried that he's another manager who's prone to falling out with players. Frutos has gone from being one of our best players to never being seen, I'm reliably informed that a falling out with Wilkins led to Chippys sudden exit, and rumours on here suggest Hart and Wilkins hadn't been speaking, which was part of the reason for his dissappearence last month.

Then, there's the fact that every time we lose a couple of games, we seem to to on losing streaks of 6 or 7 matches. He doesn't seem to have the 'bouncebackability' factor about him.

Finally, i can't get excited about his substitutions. The Nottingham Forest match aside, his substitutes always seem to come on too late to make a difference, and don't seem to be the 'obvious' one. Or, like today, ridiculously negative! If i'd gone all the way to Blackpool, paying £50 or so for the day (probably more if having to endure the lovebus), and watched us bring a striker off 25 mins from time and make no attempt to actually win the game i'd have been furious.

That's not to say there aren't things about him that i DO like - there are, and he does have positives. And no, there's probably not many, if any out there who could do a better job.

So no, i'm not his biggest fan. But i'd be prepared to see him get a 2 year deal, for the long term benefit of the club rather than the short term.

:)

Fair points.

I think the negativity today was due to the fact that we could seemingly have lost and I think we need to graft our way to safety, then we can relax a bit.

I am confused about Frutos as well. He looked like one of our best players against West Ham and is one of only a handful that can put in a decent cross.

I don't know anything about fall outs, but the Hart situation is strange. He is exactly the sort of player we need in the squad, as he is so flexible, position wise, and a grafter.

I see what you mean about the losing streaks, but I think they are to be expected with such a young team. Since he has had a dabble in the transfer market we seem to be over the worst of them (touch wood).

At a guess, he has had to learn very quickly, as with the youth team, it was more about developing the players and performances rather than points.

I would have though Chippy's sudden exit was due to a desire to play first team football, but it did seem very sudden, particularly as he may well have been able to get a better gig during the transfer window.

I was sceptical at first and had hoped we would replace McGhee with an experienced No. 1 with Deano assisting, but midtable will be a fine result for a club, desperate for a bit of stability.

Hmmm.

three years or two years with a option we need stability and someone to build a squad and work with the young players. No one better i believe

2 years. We have an excellent young team and I think having him at the top will help their development, as well as reduce the chance of them leaving in the summer.

Probably because he's not quite good enough at the moment.

The text I got today said "decent first half - The Alamo second half"

Bringing off a striker with 25 minutes to go whilst being BATTERED seems like a pretty SENSIBLE and tactically aware thing to do. Which seemed to be confirmed by the result.

If they are going to give him a contract then he should get 2 years but as Trigger says, give him the contact NOW, so that he can sorting out the contracts.

I was joking regarding Loft - read the whole thread:)

Yes, it did sound like we were being battered, but (and i'm only going by radio commentary, which isn't much) we didn't even try and make a game of it, other than th hold out for a point. There didn't seem any indication of us even trying to hit them on the break.

Yes, it may have been a sensible move, but i personally find it a boring one. But if everyone who actually went to the game and travelled the length of the country is ok with it, then fine by me!
