After Saturdays performance I would think that he will be one of the first names on the team sheet as holding midfielder, he had an excellent game. Who is this Carpenter fellow that people talk of?

Is that the same one who has won Championship medals with Brighton, Gillingham and Cardiff and finished a mans career at Reading. Thought I had heard of him somewhere but he appears to have been overtaken by Adam El Abd.

More interestingly for me, Sir Deano does seem to be proving McGhee's theory of it being impossible to attract players very wrong. I make that THREE signings now in a matter of weeks, TWO of whom can be considered fairly experienced at Championship level.

Really decent signing I reckon. He is probably a bit similar to Robinson, but if they are good enough then who cares. He might play wide as another option.

McShane yes. N-W seems to have undergone a major transformation. All the Burnley fans I know were glad to see the back of him when we had him on loan last season. Now however.....

Good evening Mr Irish. You will have o excuse me tonight, as I am a little drunk. I may therefore not be at my best when it comes to debating issues with you, which I usually thoroughly enojy. However, my point was that the famous Mr McGheee stuggled to bring in new players, whethe they be permanent or loan, good or bad. He didn't do the business in the transfer market, and as I said before that is the only reason I agreed with his departure. However, now we have suddenly signed 3 players in a few weeks, so is it not fair to say Withdean or money is not the problem? McGhee brought in a few good signings over a matte of YEARs, but Wilkins has brought in two in his first few WEEKS. I was always a fan of Marky Mac, so no need for a disagreement old boy, but I do think he had a few issues in the dressing room, which now Wilkins has made a happier place is an easier place to join. These signings, considering the league we are in, are more impressive than anything Marky Mac achieved. I'm not having a dig at the bloke, but I honestly believe we have a happier dressing room now. Roll on more signings!

c) Bowditch is a name, no more than a name. Just because we've heard of him, doesn't mean he'll deliver the goods. Players we haven't heard of (McShane the best example) have been quality, yet the Kitsons of this world have not. It's a bit early to say 'Wilkins is better than McGhee because he's made better signingS', when we don't even know if the signing is any good or not.

d) Yes, Whing is good. But the main reason he's here because of Micky Adams. And he certainly won't be coming back for a longer spell. Yes, undoubtedly a good signing, but only for a month. We're still spectacularly buggered in the right back slot when Whing goes back.

I think we have a chance to get him for longer, From reading the argus article on the web today it seems he is confident they will both be here for longer.

It does seem MM was aiming too high with the players he targeted, he seemed to want proven and expensive players which we probably don't need and certainly don't seem to have been able to afford at this level. Looking good for Deano but it could still go pear-shaped, let's hope not.

On this point specifically. The main reason he's here is Wilkins has a good relationship with Adams.

When Wilkins was first installed there were loads of posts saying he wouldn't have any decent contacts.

Well so far, with the exception of ex Albion managers, Martin O'Neill and promosing youth players coming through at other clubs they may have had a point

Just one thing though Wendy - if Peter Taylor tells you he's got a couple of promising players to lend us ignore him!
