Apologies if this is a duplicate thread, or everyone on NSC already knows this, but according to the official site, Blackwell is back in training and is pencilled in for reserve game next week.............and McGhee may retain his services for next season

I thought he got progressively stronger for us last year and would love to see him playing in a Brighton shirt again

Good to see, but who will he displace in the back four?

No-one at the moment, and to be honest I wouldn't want him playing full back, just centre back. However, with injuries/suspensions we need cover and he's a "goodun"!!

I think we'll have a very young back 4 next season, DC excluded, if thats the case then I cant see all 3 of them playing for the whole season and I think Blackwell will be the man that covers for them when they are given a breather.

Would be surprised if MM wants to keep two centre halves on the payroll who are in their mid thirties

I think it will be butters that goes then.

only if blackwell can get back to his best. he has to work hard and make sure mcghee makes the right decision for him. same for butters.

There may be some games next season where MM may wish to play 3 centre-backs - just to grind out a point at an away game!

Of course I'm assuming that we are in the First Division for this scenario! :)

And, of course, we will need cover for injuries.

He's got to agree a contract first, something he didn't do this season. Coppell gave him a contract because we'd offered him one that he was thinking about when he got injured. SC then gave him a contract because he saw it as the honourable thing to do , which is ironic ??? Will Blackwell return that loyalty given that he's been paid for doing nothing all season, or will he wait and see if he's offered something better?

Personally, I would give Butters the contract (if its a choice between the two)... Blackwell may be the better player, but offering him a contract when he may not play very often a la Kitson seems like money badly spent...
