David Lopez's Albion career has ended
David has said farewell to Albion fans after admitting his days at The Amex are over.
The popular playmaker has sent an open letter to The Argus in which he thanks supporters for their backing last season and in recent weeks.
He is now preparing to find a new club after hopes of a second year with the Seagulls faded.
The Argus revealed yesterday that the offer of a one-year deal had been withdrawn by the club.
Now David, who emerged as a fans’ favourite during the second half of last season after a slow start, has said his goodbyes. He wrote: “By means of this letter, I would really like to thank Brighton, my team-mates and the fans from myself and my family.
“I want to express that my first choice was to continue with Brighton but the other day it was communicated to me that my offer from the end of last season had been withdrawn.
“We have not negotiated with any other club throughout this time and neither was the financial or duration of the contract an issue.
“Therefore, I’m left to say that I can no longer continue at the club and I hope and wish the very best for Brighton this season and in the future.
“I would like to truly thank the fans for the support and all the messages throughout the last year and since the end of the season.”
It is understood David and his representative hesitated over agreeing a new deal while they waited to see who would be in charge of the Albion squad next season.
They insist they were given no deadline to sign a deal but believe head coach Oscar Garcia did want him as part of the squad.
Meanwhile Sporting Gijon have said they have no knowledge of a reported inquiry by Albion about Ignacio Cases.
A report in Spain yesterday said the Seagulls had been quoted 1.2million Euros for the 25-year-old attacking midfielder and had subsequently turned their attention elsewhere.
