I know they werent ever that big over here in england, but the former lead singer for Van Halen is probably one of the most OTT/extreme/bizarre characters around, very very very very 80s..lol

but some of the things he's said have been very funny.

"Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a yacht big enough to pull up right alongside it"

"Audience participation should extend from on-stage to backstage to under the stage"

"Music videos are like girlfriends. I'm constantly amazed on what other people do"

"Women are my hobby... every man needs something to keep his hands busy, and I don't have a guitar like Eddie and Michael, or some drums to bash like Alex, so I have to find some friends."

"It's not who wants to sleep with you; It's who wants to sleep with you again."

I say to the guys in the band: "You know what Voltaire said?" They think Voltaire is an air conditioning company."

"One of my friends took me to one of these all-you-can-eat salad bars recently. I passed out and it took 3 Snickers bars and a Coke to revive me."

"People ask me, "so what about Van Halen today?" I tell 'em "hey I'm not in it, I don't give a shit." They say "so what about Valerie Bertinelli?" I say, "same answer."

"I used to jog but the ice-cubes kept falling out of my glass."

"Do I ever get turned down by women? I never ask."

I have a very belligerent enthusiasm or an enthusiastic belligerence. I’m an intellectual slut.

well might make you laugh or might make you think, what a prick.

still, a very interesting if crazy guy. Early Van Halen albums were classics too..

I thought you were going to talk about how angry our favourite Albion scapegoat is about not getting another contract.

Let's dare the Arsegas scribe to use it as a headline.

Do you remember his solo stuff..?

Californian Girls, That's Life...

Mate of mine at school had the video EP and we thought it was SO COOL.

I did a quick search on the internet last year wondering what he was up to.

He's still going and was touring over here last year. He is now bald and wears a bad toupee according to Hollywood gossip - he was always very thin up top.

There was a rumour he was rejoining Van Halen a while back, but it came to nothing.

I didn't realise that the lead singer from Extreme (remember them?!) joined Van Halen and they released an album with him after Sammy Hagar (Roth's replacement) left.

Eddie Van Halen was diagnosed with cancer recently- I'm not sure how's he's doing.

Lastly - who remember Brian May and Friends - Starfleet Project ?

When our big permed friend did a rock version of the Starfleet (80s kids sci-fi series) with Eddie Van Halen...

yeah. i know his solo stuff. started off strong then faded.. he did some shows in vegas in the mid 90s...ouch..lol

Yep. they did an album with Gary Cherone. from all reports and reviews, it sounds awful. I've never heard it. but it was Eddie's backlash against the party hard type orientated songs of Roth and Hagar, so this featured more social conscious/politically charged songs...it just didnt work...surprisingly.

theres always rumours that he'll rejoin van halen, i think eddie cant stand the guy tho...lol

he's very intelligent, and had true star presence. I doubt that is still the case anymore.

btw, eddie's recovered from cancer, the band have reformed with hagar, and are currently touring the US
