Comes across as unreasonably vindictive, hopefully UEFA are as pedantic about Palace ownership

Hard to imagine the (lack of) thought process that has led to this. It’s a massive own goal. Serves no useful purpose considering his career is in tatters, but does puts the whole controversy back in the public eye. Could even be seen as bordering on harassment.

If, God forbid, Coote’s life unravels any further in future, there may be some very uncomfortable questions to answer.

There is a point about acting as a deterrent to others. However I agree with you that it seems disproportinate and surely he could be charged and have them held in abeyance only to be triggered if he sought to return to the game in future.

True, but if people aren’t already deterred by seeing the bloke’s career utterly destroyed, I don’t think this will tip the balance.

Quite. Surely it’s best for all parties if everyone just moves on now. After all, what’s the point of this latest charge?
Why should the FA drop it? He abused Klopp because of his nationality, which could be construed as ‘racism’, and just because UEFA have sacked him for drug use, then the FA shouldn’t make him face domestic charges?

I think the Mail is vile, and agree the man should try to rebuild his life, but there are charges still to answer.

I understand your point but I suppose if he hadn't been banned by uefa for a more serious crime then we would be looking at a potentially racist insult by an official against a manager which would need to have action (albeit any punishment won't be as significant as the one he already has)

Didn't charge Malky Mackay for his racist/homophobic etc because he had an expectation of privacy. Seems an odd double standard

I just don’t think it’s in the public interest. What purpose does it serve?

He didn’t abuse Klopp because of his nationality. He abused Klopp because of how Klopp treated him and used Klopp’s nationality as part of an insult. That might sound pedantic but I think it’s unfair to state ‘He abused Klopp because of his nationality’.

In other job if you committed a number of acts like Coote did you would have them all considered in one go and be sacked as the overall punishment.

Even in a career where you can be struck off / banned (as Coote has been by UEFA), you’d still face all the charges in one go. Not be sacked and banned and then months and months later called back to answer more charges.

All seems rather pointless. 99.9% sure he will be found guilty as charged.........and then what? Ban him from being a referee? He will never referee another game anywhere, at any level and neither should he.

I come to my view not based at all on any sympathy for Coote or how his life has unravelled. His choices he has to own the consequences, but for the costs to the FA. The money they are wasting on pursuing Coote could be invested in grass roots football.

Another example of the FA not being fit for purpose?

I agree with you but there are two different employers here. UEFA and the FA.
