I've got the week off and darts is filling the spaces in my hectic schedule but it's just occured to me that Holland seems to be the only other country decently represented. Why is this?
If it's played in pub culture drinking countries then why isn't Germany or USA there? do they have darts in the USA?

Jelle Klaasen

This young 21 year old lad from Holland will soon be taking the world by storm in the darts.

Mark my words!

From my experience, they quite like darts in Germany and of course certainly have a thriving pub and beer culture, but they're just not THAT into it - they're aren't that many dart boards around and it's just regarded as a bit of curiosity. It's the same with pool, while nine pin bowling alleys are actually fairly common in the cellars of German pubs.

I think playing games in the pub distracts them too much from the central business of drinking insane amounts of strong beer.

Yep, what a star - saw him play last night - 2-0 down and he couldn't hit a thing, then he just clicked and couldn't miss anything.
That was electrifying darts!

PS - Finland are the team world champs apparently!

He doesn't hang about. This 'sport' could grow on me,the concentration and fast mental arithmetic needed qualifies it as one.

Darts have been banned in U.S. bars since 1993, due to their tendencies for 'friendly fire'.
