Wasn't he in the PFA Div 3 team a few years back (the same year that DC and Bobby were)?

I thought he looked useful that season.

I've seen him play several times. Definitely one of the most talented players in the lower divisions, although possibly getting on a bit now. Takes an excellent free-kick and has a superb cross. Not very quick though - similar to Beckham in style really, although less energetic.

I always got the impression he had the talent to be a Premiership player - but not the application to make it. In our current team, I'd say he's similar to Piercy - potentially a real crowd pleaser and very creative..... if he knuckles down.

Sounds interesting... I remember him being a stand-out player for Barnet... not sure about him making it in The Championship tho'...

Well, if was in the PFA team that year he must have done well because that was the season Barnet were relegated.

Seriously though, I do remember him at Barnet and him being a quality player. He will be more creative than Oatway and although we have now not signed an outstanding midfielder we do have in Reid, Currie & Rodger ( if he comes back) 3 players that can do a decent job in midfield. The competition for places should also motivate them into upping their game.

A usefull addition in my book.

Albion & England forever.

Blimey he's getting about.

He was on trial at Posh for two weeks at the beginning of July, then he went to Colchester for a week and now he's at the Albion?

A 'good on his day' player, I wonder how many he's got left.

Darren Currie is a decent player, he can even cross the ball.

I wouldn't mind seeing him here on a short term contract.

1st BECKHAM, 2nd CURRIE
(Thursday 6th December 2001)
Wycombe wonder Darren Currie has been compared to England Captain David Beckham by his Uncle Tony. Speaking in an interview for ITV Digital, Tony Currie said "Darren is, without doubt, the best crosser of the ball, after Beckham, in the country. ??? He’ll produce nine times out of ten, right foot or left foot." Currie senior, a hero in his time for Sheffield United, Leeds United and QPR, reckons Darren should aim for more goals too. "I’m always telling him to shoot more, ‘cos he’s got a great shot, he can bend them, he can do anything with them."

And Uncle Tony wants his nephew to see more of the ball "I don’t think he demands the ball enough, I don’t know what the tactics are like at Wycombe but I’ve seen him 3 or 4 times this season and they don’t give him the ball enough."

27 year old Darren was just a few years old during his Uncle's heyday but he's glad to be continuing the tradition of the Currie name. Speaking to the Bucks Free Press after scoring his stunning 25 yard strike at Hayes in the FA Cup, he said "It's nice to keep the family name going and get a spectacular goal like he used to."

Tony, who will be 52 years old on New Years Day 2002, began his football career with Watford in 1967 but hit fame following a move to Sheffield United and went on to gain 17 full caps for England. He then moved to Leeds United in the mid 1970's before tailing out his full-time career at QPR. He later went on to spend a short time in Canada before returning to the UK for brief spells with Chesham United, Southend United and Torquay United.

The younger Currie added "I've said, for as long as I can remember, that to even be related to him is something to be proud of. He was a fantastic player. I used to be mascot at QPR when he played there and I'd go down as often as I could. As a kid I don't remember too much about him but I've watched videos of him and seen what a class player he was."

he can take players on, he can cross the ball, he can take wicked set pieces, and above all he has possibly the best damn haircut in the football league
