Unlikely as Burnley may continue at a lesser price in January

January is still over three months away though. An awful lot can happen in football during that time. Burnley may identify other targets, will Sean Dyche even be still be there? etc. etc.

Unlikely as Burnley may continue at a lesser price in January

From what I gather, depending on BOTH teams' positions, Burnley are still very interested in signing Stephens in January and also Polish winger Kamil Grosicki, who saw a deal at the Clarets hit a late snag on transfer deadline day.

The transfer fees for both players are no real stumbling block but Burnley's chairman will NOT exceed £30,000 a week or give FIVE-YEAR deals for fear of jeopardising team spirit. Grosicki , 28, wanted a 5-year deal.

Stephens's agent knows his client can get £30k a week at Burnley and NOW a healthy "signing on" bonus if he moves in January or the summer. I am sure Burnley, who were willing to pay £7 million for DS, would "reward" the player if is signed for less than £7 million.

But if Brighton look certs for auto promotion in January, Stephens most likely will sign a new deal. If he agrees a new deal before January, I expect the "release fee" to be fairly low.he "r

Even if we are not looking certs in January for promotion but Burnley are looking certs for relegation ,I wouldn't expect him to leave.

Have you actually followed this 'transfer' saga at all? Rather inaccurate with particularly the first statement. Also, wasn't it £7million after add ons - so prob £5.5mil up front - love the way Sky or whoever report these massive fees (like they did with Pritchard for us) and people cling to the numbers when they're usually about 25-30% less than that in theory. Add ons shouldn't count on initial purchase fees when discussing transfers imo...
