have been to a few 6th june commemorations over the years,absolutely fascinating days if you get the chance to have a chat with a veteran. One year sticks out,we came across an old boy hitchhiking,duly picked him up and changed our plans to take him to where he was headed.Spent the day with him and he told some great stories but all the time his stories involved his regiment or his mates,he hardly even mentioned his personal role in anything, was far more concerned about people remembering his mates who never came home.
Lovely gent and my mother kept in touch with him by letter for quite a few years.

Goes without saying these blokes are truly very special and incredibly brave.
