I would be prepared to pay road tax

Can I refer you to: http://ipayroadtax.com/

And I quote:

"Road tax was abolished 74 years ago. Road tax doesn't exist. It's VED, or 'car tax'. Motorists do not pay for the roads, we all do, via general taxation. In 1926, Winston Churchill started the process to abolish road tax. He didn't want motorists to think a token payment gave them ownership of the road. Road tax finally died in 1937, says DVLA. Paying Vehicle Excise Duty gives no "right to the road" for motorists (or car-owning cyclists)."

The cyclist is obviously showing the dangers caused by cars / lorries and has a good point.

Perhaps the next thing is to film all those idiots who cycle at night with no lights or reflective gear and zoom off the footpaths (where they shouln't be anyway) and onto the road. Then they wonder why you can't see them !

Don't get me wrong, White van man was a twat and got what he deserved but looking at the video, if it was me in that situation, i would have slowed down rather than trying to keep up with the Van and get past it. I rather suspect that the cyclist was trying to make a point (as Stat Brother pointed out above).

Even if the cyclist had been in a car and had been cut up by the van, trying to keep up with it on the inside was not a good idea.

Exactly.

If you can't see them, how can you film them?

I was out for a spin, last monday.
Riding down from Petersfield to Chi, inc a loving stretch of road, either side of Compton.

I approached a junction onto the road I was riding, with a little old lady sat ready to pull out.
There was no other traffic on the road, either way.
She waited and waited, and then pulled out, a few seconds later she would have got me.
As it is, I was able to ride along side her, for a fair distance pointing out the error of her ways.

Highway Code rule 61

Cycle Routes and Other Facilities. Use cycle routes, advanced stop lines, cycle boxes and toucan crossings unless at the time it is unsafe to do so. Use of these facilities is not compulsory and will depend on your experience and skills, but they can make your journey safer.

Then of course there is Hiighway Code rule 61 revisited, which goes more like:

Oh, God said to Abraham, "Kill me a son"
Abe says, "Man you must be puttin' me on"
God says, "No", Abe say "What?"
God say "You can do what you want Abe but
The next time you see me comin' you better run"
Well Abe said, "Where do you want this killin' done?"
God says, "Out on Highway Code rule 61"

As already mentioned, he should have slowed down, especially with the on-coming parked cars. He wanted what he got.
(I'm a cyclist and don't drive).

Yeah, a bike is going to cause the same amount of damage that a car can do...

Can cause accidents however horses have no insurance and they can do a lot of damage. I got a cyclist shaped dent in one of my cars when he for some inexplicable reason pulled out of a side road in front of me. Guess who ended up paying for that ?
