Cutting Edge - There's Your Evidence Tony Bloom!

Firstly, IMHO, I don't think I've seen such a one sided game where the team "on top" ended up losing! The football we played was, on the whole, just right.

The problem, as I saw it, was that we sorely lacked a cutting edge to finish the multitude of chances we created.

I didn't see the strikers making runs in front of their defenders to get on the end of crosses....and it wasn't as if they'd be taking a chance...there were plenty of crosses for them to attack!

OK, so Lua Lua needs to reverse his tendency to cross low and hard and shoot high over the bar...but that composure will come with maturity and some good coaching. It would be great to sign him permanently.

Hendrie looked class when he came on and just needs some match sharpness to become a real asset.

Calde continues to impress and Painter will be much welcomed on his return.

So Gus & Tony - let's get these players on our books with some investment to help Murray up front in a 2 player strike force or as cover / competition.

The evidence was there for all to see.

12 on target, 7 off.
That suggests a lot

Couldn't have been something to do with Carlisle possibly coming with a gameplan they stuck to which worked and got them 3 points then?

Think that Barnes looks more likely to score than Holroyd but not sure that either is good enough for a side aspiring for automatic promotion next season.

Have said it many times I would offer Peterborough Dickenson and some cash for Aaron McLean who is a natural goalscorer at this level in the mould of Lambert and Barnard.

Yeah can't recall too many clear cut chances. Barnes is not great. Happy to get rid

And that is exactly my point - Bennett & Lua Lua were getting into wide areas and providing the crosses - but no-one was prepared to run in front of their defender to shoot, hold up the ball & turn, get a head on it.

Not aggressive enough in the box.

Yes, Carlisle came with a game plan and the cynic in me thought they were under orders to bring down any Albion player running at pace towards their area (how many free kicks like that in the 2nd half?).

But I think colletively you've answered you're own question - no clear cut chances but plenty of possession / crosses = no cutting edge.

Like I said before, I don't think the team were far off yesterday, just need an aggressive and goal hungry striker.

Here's hoping for an interesting transfer window.

But do we want a goalscorer at this level? I hope we are looking for a goalscorer from the next level up for our promotion next season, and to spearhead our charge up the Championship.

Yeah, looking that way , had plenty of chances now.

Shame as looked alright on his debut

I disagree, I think there's enough there to keep giving him chances, he's not a starter but he's worth a spot on the bench. He might still go the way of Davies but it's too early to write him off just yet.

I said it on another thread but I think Holdroyd looks a better player than Barnes.
