People shouldnt get too bogged down on how this new 4-1-2-2-1 looks on paper, width will will come from the fluidity of the system.

The fullbacks will provide the natural width but the the 2 in behind the striker will also have licence to drift into wide positions as will the main striker.

This formation suits someone like CMS (and Baldock) to the ground as he loves chasing balls into the channels as well. Just look at his goal on Saturday, started from him getting possession on the left wing with the 2 in behind then drifting into the box to fill that space left by him.

Absolutely

On Tuesday, Colunga and Lua Lua were constantly shifting positions. Incidentally Colunga provided loads of width. I think the same would apply to Baldock and CMS if playing. Ultimately we've got the type of players who can probably be quite flexible about their positioning upfront. I'd probably have CMS down the right, where he often drifts anyway. But with scope to roam and switch with Baldock and Colunga.

Simple question. Lua lua is the only obvious wide player we have. Who will provide width in current squad , the full backs ala Bennett on Saturday or will we play narrow?

Width and pace as well. I am still in favour of the one winger 4-3-3 for home matches. I was dismayed when Will Buckley was sold. Colunga may turn out to be better, but there are some games when we need the pace and to stretch the opposition defence.

For pace, Rohan Ince looks promising. if his pass choice improves, he may actually play the role that Buckley never had the bottle for. Ince needs to improve his technical ability: trapping, shooting, passing, weak foot.

That man was all over the place last Saturday, I thought I was hallucinating when I saw him whipping in that cross, and then to to top it all, his chest down and volley at goal at the South end, looked like a proper Centre Forward!

I was one who thought Greer was probably on his way out bet he looks like hes getting younger! :wozza:

Not for the first time. I always reckoned if he could not hack it in the Premier in the centre, he might be good enough for right back.

What role are you thinking of?
I can't think of how Ince will ever be asked to play a role that Buckley would have played.
Ince is neither a winger or a player you'd play behind the front man - which we now have plenty of options for anyhow.
Ince is currently learning the trade of central midfielder, playing from deeper positions where he can break play up and then act as an engine through the middle (his current weakness). He does have pace moving forward but it's a totally different type of role to one you'd ever ask Buckley to play.

Is Ince fast? I have never thought that. Who are now our fastest players and who are the slowest?

I'm not sure he has electric pace, but his long legs give him an advantage. I remember him bursting through the middle several times last year in a standout performance away at Bournemouth.
