Has anybody noticed how bad the postal service is just recently, particularly now they have done away with a second delivery. We get our post some days at 7.30 a.m., and others at 2.00 p.m. There is no consistency; Also, I have been forced twice to go the local sorting office lately, to find that somebody has underpaid to send an item to me by 20p, and I have to pay £1.20 (inc £1 "administration" charge to their "revenue protection" scheme) to collect it. Highly inconvenient, why can I not just pay the postie.

On several occasions recently first class mail has taken 2 days to reach me.

Adam Crozier has single-handedly (well with serial director Allan Leighton) managed to fcuk up the postal service (like he did with the FA - he appointed Sven). He is totally and utterly useless.

I thought they'd done away with the FIRST post, it's never here to be read over breakfast!!

Count yourselves lucky. The UK postal service still sounds wonderful next to ours. I just received a letter that has taken 3 days to get to me first class. It was posted in the town I live in and only had to come about 1.5 miles.

Over the last couple of months where I am we have had 5 different posties.
Most days, you see people from our street popping letters into their neighbours homes that have been sent to the wrong addresses.

That does not surprise me. Up until recently, I always thought the service was reliable. Crozier and Leighton have tried to cut costs and at the same time, have ruined the postal service.

According to Post Office official targets they should have your first - and last - post delivered to you by lunchtime - which they define as the highly convenient hour of 1pm. . .

I'm with Juan on this one.

It can take 2-3 days for a letter to go from one side of Tokyo to the other, and yet I can post a letter to the UK and get it to arrive within the same timeframe.

I work from home, from my desk I look out on the road, can't leave my post until the last collection time (on the box it says 6) because last collection is typically sometime between 3 and 5

Exactly. Our postal service is top drawer compared to just about anywhere else. Incredibly low prices, very reliable and very very quick.

Cutbacks in service are nothing to do with Adam Crozier and everything to do with junk mail now accounting for 90% of volume.

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
A lot of the problems stem from Croziers madcapped idea to reduce the number of overnight flights throughout the UK and replace them with a few nice shiny new jets that look good on adverts and shiny brochures, and also putting his eggs in one basket by using only a couple of operators where before there was about 6 or 7 contract holders.

At the time of the idea the airline operators who carry Royal Mail (including my present employer) warned the Post Office that this would not work, as did the Unions and guys who have been involved in 'Skynet' for 25 years.

Of course we were all ignored and the result has been chaos with a lot of mail arriving at sorting depots late or not at all as the big jets only go point to point say Edinburgh to Bristol, whereas before a network of smaller planes would cover Cardiff, Norwich, Exeter etc etc, so even if an aircraft broke down, the mail would still get there because there was always a back up aircraft somewhere around the UK that could cover, or it could normally be roaded to another departure airport i.e Norwich national mail would be roaded to East Midlands to meet aircraft going to the various destinations, now that is impossible because instead of a fleet of small aircraft that were flexible and could go anywhere at the Post Office's request for no extra charge, they are lumbered with a few big jets that can only go to certain destinations as the mail is now containerised (like DHL or standard airfreight) and many of the second tier airports are not equipped to deal with it.

Its confusing, but I can assure you its a nightly f*** up, compounded by the fact that now a lot of aircraft operators who lost their original Royal Mail contracts will hold them to ransom because they know they are desperate and can charge them what they want.

Incidently the new system is actually costing them more money as they have to plug the holes on an almost nightly basis.
