Neither are playing in a box to box (clichéd I know) role.

I felt either of both of their signing were to free up the midfield leaving LB more to do, but CMS with some company.

I'd have Sparrow over them two given their current form.

This is what I thought about Crofts. Being a regular Premier League player I thought he'd bring some quality (but grit) to the midfield and provide a link between LB and CMS. Hammond I thought would be a squad player.

Crofts gives us a bit more grit and presence in midfield but goes missing.

Hammond seems always available for the ball, tidy, but only goes sideways at best!

I thought Hammond was going to be the box to box midfielder chipping in with a fair few goals that we needed, but not on the evidence ive seen, playing like a southampton agent at the moment.

Agree and, funny you saying that, I wondered if he is a SFC plant, I haven't seen any decent performance from him thus far so, if as I understand it he is on loan, perhaps we should send him back (Sort of Trades Description Act). I mean erstwhile SFC captain, LOL !

I think it'll take a bit of time for them to settle in. They started the season with other clubs and didn't get a huge amount of playing time.

I'm certain they'll settle in soon and we'll see the best of them. Same for Dobbie.

I hope crofty and hammond were watching Bruno when he stepped in to central mid for the last 20 minutes. It wont be repeated too often but he gave a masterclass in creating forward impetus.

Hammond has been very poor since coming back. Had a decent debut, but been very average, slow and lethargic ever since.

Albion Roar made a very good point about how Hammond's passing slows down the momentum of moves...very true, evidenced when he played the 'Bridcutt role' against Peterborough he couldn't pick up the ball and play the next pass quickly enough.
Crofts will come good, but seriously wondering how Hammond gets in the team each week?! Will JFC come back in January, there's certainly a place for him.

It must be me but I think that Hammond does his job well he keeps possession which to us is important. I am disappointed with Crofts and expected a lot more and I am also disappointed that neither has looked like getting forward enough to score a goal, but hopefully Gus will sort that out..

Have to agree with this, everything went through him in the last 20 mins. He showed great composure and vision albeit against ten men.

I think the problem with Hammond is that he doesn't seem to have a clue what role he is meant to be playing. In his best season (2004-05), he was played as an attacking midfielder, often going beyond the (usually only one) forward and chipped in with some crucial goals. I remember him having a couple of superb games (Watford away where he set up Virgo's equaliser, and West Ham with his two headers). Then McGhee changed him to the left wing, and when he and Carpenter played together after Oatway got injured they were too similar. At Southampton, he started out as an attacking midfielder (I remember him missing a sitter in Gus's first game), but when we last played them he played the Bridcutt role. Perhaps he needs a manager to decide where his best position is, as on his day he can be a cracking footballer, but starting moves from the back certainly doesn't suit him. As for Crofts, I was expecting far better from him and have so far been very disappointed. Other than his missed chance against Leeds, I can't remember anything he's done this season.

Hammond?

Hammond?
I would have to say, who?
Best of a Sunday league player but not a Championship player this season?
Really not sure why he is in the starting 11?
Bit player who is out of his depth.
I hope he proves me wrong??
