Thanks R P. I have calmed down considerably now. And I'll be even calmer when the excellent Kinsella (Republic of Ireland international) beats three of our players, releases Guppy (England) who then skins Mayo down the wing, and pulls it back for Ricketts (England) to bury a header past Roberts.

Don't be so stupid, Easy. That will never be allowed to happen.

Guppy plays on the left innit.

Well that must mean that either Flitney or Beasant will be number 2 at Fulham, as they have also flogged Taylor.

For FUCKS sake. This from the Beeb.

"Brian Deane, Steve Guppy and Craig Hignett are likely to join Leeds after manager Kevin Blackwell was given the funds to buy the trio. Blackwell met with the Elland Road board to discuss the financial implications of signing the tree triallists. Striker Deane, left-winger Guppy and utility man Hignett all played in the club's two-match tour of Sweden. Chief operations officer Shaun Harvey said: "We are having discussions with the players to try and finalise terms." Harvey added: "It is anticipated further additions to the squad will be made before Sunday's friendly against Valencia at Elland Road." All three players are likely to be offered one-year deals. Meanwhile Leeds are reportedly interested in signing Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Darren Ward."

"Further additions by Sunday" - thats ON TOP of the three triallists in this story, and the other signings listed earlier in this thread. Pissed off ? I know I am. What chance have we got when clubs like Leeds throw contracts around like confetti to bolster their squad ?

Part of their confidence is due to their fans loyalty.

When you get one fan turning up with a chq for £37,500 to buy 10 Twenty-year season tickets, it shows how much they want their club to survive and get promoted again.

Leeds fans

Thats not really the point though Yorkie. The paradox here is that you can run up a massive debt, and then basically not really have to service it because the creditors are shit-scared of:

(a) calling it in, being viewed as "responsible" for the club winding up, and incurring a wrath of thousands of fans.
(b) starving the club of resources, and as a direct result reducing the chances of the clubs return to the big time and being in a position to pay the debt back.

Thats why clubs like Leicester and Leeds get away with this shit. And all the time they do it, they are treading over the likes of the Albion, who scrimp and scratch around the arse-end of the transfer market in an attempt to stay within our means. Just like Leicester last time, we could very well end up getting turned over home and away by Leeds and end up going down, while they end up going back up with their assortment of Premiership players and the 6 points they have gleened off those who operate their clubs on a more sound financial basis.

Its us who are the mugs in all this.

I am not a business person at all but isn't it to with confidence? If a firm has the confidence on the Stock Market they can speculate to accumulate or something like that?

If that firm then loses the confidence of the Market they can sink like a stone eg Marconi?

To an extent Yorkie, but when it comes to football, normal business rules (and basic common sense) simply do not seem to apply.

How else do you explain the actions of respected and successful businessmen like Ridsdale and Richmond, when they are at the helm of running a football club. These men don't achieve what they have in life through being spendthrift idiots, and yet put them at the helm of a board of directors at a professional football club, and they seem to go completely mental.

I think that it is why Easy is so worked up, as it is the speculating to accumulate that got Leeds into the do-do in the first place.

I don't reckon they'll get promoted this season, and could be in danger of ending up in the Premier League graveyard that is League One along with Barnsley, Bradford, Swindon, Oldham and Sheffield Wednesday.

its quite clear that leeda re risking it all on this season. they know the only way to keep running is to be in the prem so thats what they are doing. its all they can do in the situation that they are in. if they do get promoted(which they very well could do) then thats the best possible solution for them

I would dearly love to see that happen CO.

Before anyone slates me, I don't mean for the club to go out of business but a bit of humility from some of the Leeds fans (well, a lot of them) wouldn't go amiss.

A fairly decent bet this coming season is for Leeds to get relegated from 'The Championship' at 14/1. Can't see any reason at all why the name 'Leeds United' should make them any more immune from relegation than it did last season. And they've kept flogging off the silverware ever since.

Too far from the sun
Leeds are taking a massive gamble on getting back up at the first attempt with a squad that is weaker than the one they were relegated from the prem with. If it works, good luck to them but I for one would not want the Albion to take the same sort of risk as they are risking the existence of their club. Bradford have already been quoted as an example - last I heard there was considerable doubt whether they will still exist at the start of the season (has this been resolved yet?). If Leeds gamble doesn't come off (and I don't think it will) then in a few years time they will be where Sheff Wed and Bradford are now, maybe worse.

Give me the uncertainty on the pitch over uncertainty off it any day

Whilst that might be exactly what they deserve, I cannot see a squad containing the likes of Deane, Guppy, Hignett, Joachim, Ricketts, Wright, Johnson, Radebe, Kelly, Bakke and christ-knows who else they manage to sign between now and August 7th, occupying a place in the lower reaches of the League table.

They're far from being a nailed-on bet to go back up, but relegation candidates ? Naah. It would seem they still have a substantial chequebook to accomodate the players they need to make a go of it next season.

Alright for some, innit.

The point is that Leeds have no hope of repaying that debt unless they are in the Premiership. Therefore, they are quite rightly selling off the top stars and bringing in players who can do a job and get them up.

It is totally unethical, but at the end of the day the creditors are content for this plan of action to be applied. They are a big club annd can generate huge revenue when run properly. I expect them to be back in the Premiership in a couple of years.
