289/6

42 runs ahead, if Giles and Jones can stay in and get us up to a lead of about 80 then we can send Harmy in for a quick fire half century and we're in control.

Boje having a torrid time...
109.5 Boje to GO Jones, SIX, down the pitch, again plays firmly down the line, lofts it over mid-on and the rope

82 ahead now..

Jones 44*
Giles 25*

And that's tea. Very much England's day today. Bat another hour and a half and then stick em in for 7 or 8 uncomfortable overs.

I can't quite see the logic in putting blocker Hoggard in at No.9. He's averaging under 5 for the series, whereas Harmison is averaging 30 and Jones hit 44 on his debut. Strange one...

Giles OUT.

Lead of 102. If Jones and Harmy can wag for a few overs we've had a very good day.

352/9, Hoggard out for 1 off 24 balls, 39 mins.

Surely it would have been better to put in whichever of Simon Jones and Harmison were not going to get the new ball?

An excellent day for England, but I think we need to rethink the order when we're attacking, and relegate Hoggard to No.11.

Is it better to have a stayer at one end and a slogger at the other though, it'll at least make the bowling team move the field around more often

359ao. Nel 6 for, great effort that.

England lead by 112, 20-odd over left today. The Boks must be looking to post 350 in 60-odd overs, then leave us with c. 240 in 50 overs tomorrow.

This should be interesting - Herschelle Gibbs is the big wicket.

Not Luton! Thank God
Not really. We aren't playing a ODI and England dont need to win it.

If SA start trying to hit the ball we will just set the field back. No way they can score that much. I'll give you odds?

Anyone know why Flintoff is opening the bowling with Hoggard? Nothing wrong with Hamison is there?? Is it because he tends to OUST De villiers?

It doesn't make any difference to South Africa whether the lose 2-1 or 3-1 - a loss is a loss. I fully expect them to have a go at getting a quickfire score at 6 an over and then put us into bat with 50-odd overs to go.

A result is still on the cards because the Boks have to go for it.

5.4 Flintoff to Gibbs, OUT: forward, seemed to get a fine edge, great appeal and ump sending him back to the changerooms.
