As we all now know, we have no game on 6th March and whilst others have been looking at other ideas, I focussed on the game up at Crawley and have had a great response from them, which I repeat below, suitably edited:
"I spoke the the clubs MD and he's more than willing to help out Brighton. He's prepared to offer you the chance to put a leaflet in every programme we sell providing you bring them to the club beforehand (say the Thursday or Friday). They could be petition forms. Get them to me and they'll be in there as I'm in the office then. He's also happy for you to distribute inside and outside the ground. He even talked about a free advert for the cause!
"He'll be approaching the Argus soon about a small ad talking about our cheap tickets for youngsters so that might encourage a few up. (N.B. it's £3 for kids that day instead of the usual £5 - sully)
"The one thing he won't allow is a money collection. The game's already been earmarked as one of our charity games where we do a collection for a local cause. Last year a 13 year old supporter collapsed and died of a heart attack the morning after our FA Cup replay win against Tiverton and we've already earmarked the Weymouth game as a good earner for the collection in aid of the British Heart foundation.
You can contact him at the club on 01293 ******. his name's Steve Duly and tell him I put you in touch. He's expecting a call. He's not that good at getting back to people. It's a one man band at Crawley (plus me and a couple of other volunteers) and to say he's busy is an understatement. He is though immensely helpful and keen as mustard on improving relations between Sussex clubs.
"His e-mail is on our official site but it's *****************.
"Hope it helps, and you come to the game. My nephews are match day mascots and I'll be free from them for a change"
I'm not much of one for organising the printing of leaflets and such, but will contact those that I know can help.
It sounds like a big presence at the game won't be necessary if they're going to do this for us. I'm happy to dish out leaflets, but if there's one in every programme, that'll probably pick up a fair proportion anyway.
I will give Mr Duly a call tomorrow to sort out the final arrangements.
