Crawley v Weymouth 6th March

As we all now know, we have no game on 6th March and whilst others have been looking at other ideas, I focussed on the game up at Crawley and have had a great response from them, which I repeat below, suitably edited:

"I spoke the the clubs MD and he's more than willing to help out Brighton. He's prepared to offer you the chance to put a leaflet in every programme we sell providing you bring them to the club beforehand (say the Thursday or Friday). They could be petition forms. Get them to me and they'll be in there as I'm in the office then. He's also happy for you to distribute inside and outside the ground. He even talked about a free advert for the cause!

"He'll be approaching the Argus soon about a small ad talking about our cheap tickets for youngsters so that might encourage a few up. (N.B. it's £3 for kids that day instead of the usual £5 - sully)

"The one thing he won't allow is a money collection. The game's already been earmarked as one of our charity games where we do a collection for a local cause. Last year a 13 year old supporter collapsed and died of a heart attack the morning after our FA Cup replay win against Tiverton and we've already earmarked the Weymouth game as a good earner for the collection in aid of the British Heart foundation.

You can contact him at the club on 01293 ******. his name's Steve Duly and tell him I put you in touch. He's expecting a call. He's not that good at getting back to people. It's a one man band at Crawley (plus me and a couple of other volunteers) and to say he's busy is an understatement. He is though immensely helpful and keen as mustard on improving relations between Sussex clubs.

"His e-mail is on our official site but it's *****************.

"Hope it helps, and you come to the game. My nephews are match day mascots and I'll be free from them for a change"

I'm not much of one for organising the printing of leaflets and such, but will contact those that I know can help.

It sounds like a big presence at the game won't be necessary if they're going to do this for us. I'm happy to dish out leaflets, but if there's one in every programme, that'll probably pick up a fair proportion anyway.

I will give Mr Duly a call tomorrow to sort out the final arrangements.

i thought Albion were at home to Tranmere Rovers???

PS Crawley are up against a Weymouth side full of money but Crawley have already beaten Weymouth at their place so its not impossible and despite the end of seaosn collapse they usually have this year might be theres id say Crawley have a very good chance of making the conference and i hope they do, despite knock on effect it will have for Albion it can only be good for Sussex football.

thanx donots, in that case a good crowd should be anticipated good atmosphere and 3 points for the reds. Good 1400 crowd vs Eboiurne should get at least 2000 for Weymouth game maybe I suggest between 3000 and 3500

Yep on Crawley web site (http://www.crawley-town-fc.co.uk)

KIDS’ PRICES CUT FOR WEYMOUTH CLASH
All under-16s will be able to gain terrace admission to Crawley’s clash with Weymouth on 6 March for just £3 instead of the usual £5. Managing Director Steve Duly said: “I think we are all aware of the potential implication of this match and we hope by taking this decision of reducing admission that it will encourage family groups from both Crawley and Weymouth to attend the match.” Members of the club’s successful Junior Reds scheme can, of course, still gain free admission on production of their membership cards.

I wish, it's normally a "we're out of the FA Cup" collapse. If we are lucky we sometimes stretch it 'til Christmas.

People still expect some kind of slip up but it ain't happened yet and at the rate they are going it should go down to the wire.

Oh, and I can back up the comment about Steve Duly not getting back to you. Good luck.

Crawley Boy,

Do you know are Weymouth expected to bring a few hundred? If they do and no doubt the locals will turn up and perhps a few that would otherwise be at Withdean then could be a decent crowd, good atmosphere and I say the std of football not to far off what you'd see at Withdean.

thats a good crowd was there when they played Dagenham in Cup think about 3000/3500 great atmosphere unfortunately sumthing you dont get at Withdean, saw them play Stafford Rangers while back and the visitors took about 200 fans to Crawley so could be some good banter with the crowd and standing too!

I think Weymouth will bring a few. I think the club are/were gearing themselves for a crowd between 2,500 to 3,000. I guess if there's a few Albion there it could well be over the 3,000 mark.

It's gonna be a record high for a league game at the Broadfield Stadium, as that's only about 2,100. It will take some doing to beat the stadium high though which was against Dagenham in the FA Cup last season, over 4,500.
