Good article gives an insight into the tactical genius we have :)

interesting. The second half v peterboro, the bournemouth game and the first half tonight seem to suggest that a reasonable way of playing against us is to actually defend HIGH UP the pitch, not deep... the Col U keeper tonight was bellowing at his defence and midfield to get up and out all night...

It's funny, loads of us non-experienced football fans would agree with the way he does things, but clearly there is a lot more to putting these blindingly obvious principles into practice. You could ask any high brow football hack to write that article, but Gus's genius is the fact that he can actually get his team playing like they believe in his method.

Being one for pedantry, Barcelona did overcome a side defending as well as that, winning 1-0 on the night but apart from that he's obviously spot on. I mean even that goal required a spectacular bit of play which you're not likely to see every week - from their centre half no less! Listening to him on Sky's La Liga coverage and reading stuff from him, he does seem like one of the most interesting people that you could wish to speak to about football.

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
He contradicts himself, doesn't he? Anyway, I'd rather he didn't give away his trade secrets. Whatever he does, it is working and working extremely well! Some lower league managers are probably feeling as sick as a parrot. Not only was Poyet a very very good player, he has waltzed in and transformed a team of misfits into a sleek passing team with the ability to win with ease and without even hitting a high gear.

I don't think he's giving his secrets away really because ultimately, what he preaches, might completely go out of the window if the team's a goal behind and time is running out. It'd be different if he specifically said something like "When teams are defending deep, we will always look to cross the ball to Glenn Murray in between the left back and centre back, using someone else as a decoy run." That would be showing his hand. Like he said, he wants his side to mix things up and not be predictable in the same way some other teams may set up.
