Could We Do A Hull ?

I meant how much did Chelsea spend at the start and through this season on new players. I reckon about £50 million. And how many times were they runners-up this season. That answer is three. So it doesn't gurantee success spending large amounts of money. But, if the proverbiale "Premiership" pot of Gold is worth £60 million, and you spend £1 million getting there, that has got to be worth the risk of getting relegated the next season.
Listen carefully. I shall say this only ONCE.

If the Albion reach the premiership, I, for one, am perfectly prepared to tolerate being runners-up in three competitions. Even one would be acceptable.

Considering the success we've had in the shitty circumstances of the last 10 years I think it's possible. I put it partly down to the club being run well. If that continues when we're in our shiny new stadium, I wouldn't put it past us.

That may well be the case but at least they have got there and will come back down with a handsome cash windfall.

If they do like West Brom appear to have done and don't go mad on what they spend trying to stay up and do a Bradford. I believe it is possible to be a yo yo club by spending wisely and that is the best way to give a smaller club the chance to gradually become well funded enough to survive in the Premiership. I can see the Albion being in with a shout over the next 6 years and doing a Reading. I would expect Reading to be in with a good shout of going back up next season having not spent beyond their means in the ascent and fall. I'd be more than happy if we followed that route, although from our last experience in the top flight I have to say I enjoyed being a big club in the 2nd tier far more than I enjoyed our time in the top division.

Is the correct answer.

Just look at Reading,Fulham,Wigan etc.

NO major investor=NO chance of Prem football.

We can only hope!

PISS OFF has everyone forgotten about Wimbledon

Top flight football for a few seasons finishing in EUROPE places once and never bought a million pound player until they bought Ainsworth and that's when they started to slide

Sorry forgot F.A. cup beating Liverpool as well (IT CAN BE DONE WITHOUT THE BIG MONEY)

That was then,this is now.
Do you really think that another team could do a wimbledon and go from non league to the multi million pound industry that is the premiership without huge investment...........dream on!

Oh,anyway are you telling me that Wimbledons MULTI-MILLIONAIRE chairman during their top flight years,Sam Hammam, had nothing to do with their success then!

:D

YES it could be done take a lot longer though !! BUT we are already in a better position than Wimbledon were, We have the new stadium around the corner now ETC

Hamman may have been a very rich man BUT never invested heavily in the club until they started to slide out the top division!!!!!

Too little too late in his investment

If you look at clubs who have built new grounds most have gone on to a modicum of success, the only one I can think of who hasn't really done this is Darlington.

No is the simple answer.Don't forget Hull spent a million on one player. We need a rich backer

I think that with a smart new stadium, there will be plenty of rich backers able to see the massive potential of the club. Absolutely no reason why we shouldn't be able to do a Hull or a Reading or a Fulham. Nothing very special at all about any of these teams other than they've got a bit of cash to splash

Why not? It only takes a good half season to get into the top flight.

No. Not got the backing or the support base likely to mobilise for more than the odd game like Palace or Play Off finals.

When I was at uni I remember Hull getting 22,000 for Oxford at home on a Tuesday night in the BOTTOM division.

KC going up to 34,000 next season which I expect to be rammed every week.

It will take us a long time to get back 20,000 regular fans once the excitement about Falmer dies down.

Also, as someone else said, they were spending MILLIONS in the bottom league.

....let's not forget clubs like Huddersfield, Southampton etc who have build new stadia and gone the other way. It is not as simple as just building a new ground.
