I do believe your 'cause and effect' scenario is wrong - in the sense that you have confused the cause with the effect and the effect with the cause.

Tory government neglects railways for years. Gets to the situation where they have to do something. They have two choices.

1) Massive investment of public funds.
2) Sell it off and hope it sorts itself out.

They opted for the second.

Is that clearer?

I actually think the trains are better now than they were when they were nationalised. They suffered massively for a while but now the tide is turning and things are getting much better. Complaints are now down 20% this year but of course that doesn't make the news...

Complaints are probably down 20% because 20% more people can't be arsed to write them anymore. Agree the tracks, well the one's between Brighton and London at least, seem to be turned around at last, but no sooner does that happen than a new set of trains are introduced which f*** up the stats just as badly cos the doors don't work. Teething problems yada yada

Most Govt departments are inefficient. They would be ripped to shreds if they were private entities.

Please don't put efficient and public sector in the same sentence... this always raises the spectre of tens of thousands of low paid frontline public service workers losing their jobs... only for there to be a sudden realisation after all, when nothing works, that perhaps the public sector wasn't quite so inefficient after all...


100,000 job losses, announced by our friend Mr Brown, from the Civil Service (40,000 in the Dept for Work & Pensions alone)... no-one left to pay pensions or collect child support!!! :nono


So we're on strike this Thursday and Friday! :

They can't even decide if my unit is part of the National Offender Management Services (NOMS), or whether we are going to stay in London. Apparently, 2700 have to go from our core department, and 2200 from NOMS headquarters. I think that's fairly clear, don't you?
