A sporty 1972 Toyota Carolla Twin Carb in the red with black vinyl roof.

It got stuck on Fistral Beach after an all night beach party (overshot the car park) which is quite cool.

Toyota Supra 3.0 Twin Turbo supercar. 0-60 in 4.9 secs. 326 bhp.

Loved that car, had it 5 years, put 90,000 miles onto it. Never let me down once.

Supposedly top wack of 155 (but I couldn't possibly comment **cough**).

Now got a 3.2 Audi TT (2 1/2 years old, has had a new engine, new gear-box, overheated twice on M25, new dashboard - been off the road for over 10% of it's life). Service from Caffyns Audi (Dyke Road) has been pathetic.

Shame the Toyota range is sooo boring now; the cars are very reliable.

Shame..I like it.

They made a retro looking car, to regain some of the stylish lines and design that was absent in modern cars. So many Jap cars look the same, and US manufacturers were paired with them to churn out competitive automobiles.

They make a nice looking one called the Chrysler Crossfire;

Have you seen that Chrysler Prowler?
Here's a pic. I've not seen one in the UK yet.

Heres me and my '68 Midget on the way back from Le Mans - I was being attacked by a wasp at the time of photo... Zef's TVR Vixen is behind, and his late fathers Aston (borrowed) is behind that!

Trouble with MOST American cars is their inabilty to take a bend at any sort of speed without feeling like you're driving a sponge with wheels. Great pose value with little driver enjoyment imo although can't comment on Vipers and the like as I've not driven one. They also tend to still be bouncing up and down long after you've hit the bump

Both American cars I realise, but apparently a Dodge Viper will get seriously spanked on a track, by a common or garden Mustang. The Viper notoriously sucks on the bends, but can do 200 on a straight.
The Corvette would do much better I'd imagine, but then you would have to re-tune the bugger afterwards, at lots of expense.

Zef can outcorner most of the American machinery we race against, mostly pre 66 Mustangs, but you can't get near them on the straight - f*** me do they fly!!

Out of interest does Zef race any old Alfas and how does the Cortina compare?

Yeah, and you knock my choice :jester:

Actually owned both a Midget and a convertable Vitesse but as both were not that reliable I wouldn't call them cool. In the US I still actually own one of these -

Yes - we race against loads of Alfa's - its very dependant on the engine capacity and modifications. We race an FIA Cortina GT - which means its as it rolled off the Dagenham production line with allowable period racing extras. So we run a 1498cc engine - some of the GTA Alfas are 2 litres and they're super quick, cornering and flat out straights...But a bog standard 1498cc Alfa we can race with and have a good old ding dong!

Heres a race result from earlier in the year showing the kind of cars we're up against:
