The guy who won the amputee 100m at the Seoul olympics would have come 5th in the seoul able bodied final ...... Thats two places behind Linford Christie ... about 1.5 metres behind ....

My main gripe is that in many events it is just not an equal playing field when you see a swimming race where everyone's disabilities are different i.e. one guy with part of right leg missing and nothing else, guy in next lane has stumps for arms and what looks like below knee amputation on both legs.

But for the majority of these people its the taking part that counts and not the winning and the pride of representing their country .
Perhaps Paula Radcliffe should take a good look at these guys because thats what representing your country in the Olympics is all about.

All she cared about was winning.

She bottled it because she knew she was not going to win!!

She should of at least finished the races even if she walked the rest!!

Simster,

'Trivial'. To you, maybe, but to the athletes and the people who do have an interest in sport, it's far from it.

'I have no interest in watching'. FFS, didn't realise TV was especially for you. I have no interest in watching golf, Formula One or The Bill but appreciate other people have.

Newbury, Berkshire.
If you want mainstream sport, go and buy a Sky subscription like anyone else would.

Personally, I'd rather not bother with Sky, but if you want to watch it this badly then it's your money to spend as you see fit.

The broadcast industry is deregulated now so that any broadcaster can bid for any sport they want. If there's a particular mainstream sport that appeals to you, then subscribe to the appropriate channel.

Or do as I do, forget about watching it on TV and save my pennies to watch it live at the venue itself.

they are just amazing.

They can do more with one leg than I can do with my two

Total respect to each and everyone of them.

I was so impressed by the equestrian riders doing dresage who suffer from cerebal palsey and yet were able to control their horses brilliantly.

I have to tell you that Mrs BHA and Ms BHA were at the game when the 'Special Team' paraded round Withdean at half time. They were both very moved by this as it appears that Americans don't like to see people who are challenged at their sporting events as it portrays the wrong image.

I wonder what they'd have made of that wonderful thalidamide boy who led the team out against Liverpool in the cup at The Goldstone when we beat the scousers 2-0 ?

Have to agree with the Simster. As I understand what he's saying, fair play to the athletes, there are some amazing personal achievements going on and if I knew anyone competing I'd be glued.

But I don't, and the problem is with the coverage. One good thing in this country is that you can't tell people what is top sport, they can't be kidded and instinctively know. And the BBC coverage is out of all proportion to the interest.
