How many on here have had concussion before and how was it for you?
My experience the last few days has not been great. I came down to Devon on Saturday evening (missing the football and watched pens in the services) to play Mother’s Day golf with mum. It all started very well scoring very nicely and even hit pin for a hole in one (still not had one) then it all went wrong..I had played stroke index one hole a 465 yard par four like a pro with driver 9 iron to about 20 foot. As I put my bag by the 7th tee I heard a call of fore the exact moment a ball smashed into the back of my head.
I took a couple of steps staggering before I hit the deck holding my head. Immediately it was obvious I had a problem with blood coming out of my hands and down my arm. My mum and her mate used towels with pressure to stop bleeding before others helped very quickly. Before long a first aid kit had arrived and they were onto 999 (concerns about fracture and all the sodding blood). After about 45 mins I was moved and ended up at hospital where they prodded and poked and glued it all back together before I was sent on my way with an information sheet.
I was able to pick up my car yesterday afternoon from the golf club and drove back to mum’s feeling okay. Last night I didn’t sleep well and this morning I woke up and felt like I was in a different planet. I was slurring speech, mixing up words, struggling to string a sentence together and basically a complete space cadet. We called 111 and I was sent to hospital for a Check up. They were concerned because I had no idea what my phone number was and other quite simple questions. Struggling to focus etc. The CT scan was clear so I merely have severe concussion. I can’t drive for several days and can’t work at a computer etc. This message is the longest I have looked at screen all day.
It is weird - I have moments where I am not sure what day it is then seem okay for a while (such as now) before going groggy again
Has anyone else suffered from concussion and what do you remember of it all?
Advice from me
1) if you hit a stray golf ball shout FORE as loud as you can. This bloke checked to see if anyone was there and by the time he saw me and shouted I had been hit from about 130 yards by his drive.
2) a reminder that if someone shouts fore then protect your head. A golf ball effing hurts and the scar will last for ages and the bump long enough.
