I have tried to find a program that will backup my important documents, photos etc onto CD but I have had no luck so far. I don't really want to go out and buy a tape drive or zip drive etc. if its not necessary. I know I could do the files bit by bit but I want something that can do it all in one go.

The XP backup and others I have found will put it onto one floppy disks other but will not do the same onto CD. I am left at the moment with a back up file of 1.5gb+ on my hard disk which I want to burn onto CD.

My worry is that I have got loads of photos which are irreplaceable (cardiff/family/junior seagulls open days/etc) and if my hard disk fails they could be lost forever. These grow all the time so I want a simple process to backup everything I need almost at the press of a button.

Can anyone suggest something.

Nero.

you'll have to split your 1.5GB up to fit on to CDs but Nero provides tools to simpfy backups. Word of warning though, dont do a backup to CD and expect the data to still be good in 10 years time, as CD-R is that reliable. Make regular backups as you go along.

You could use Winrar to split an archive into CD length chunks compressed and burn them to CD. To restore you would have to copy the contents of all the CDs in the archive onto your disk though and then uncompress it.

Its quite handy for archiving though. Personally though with 1.5Gb of data I'd invest in a DVD writer which only costs about 40 quid these days and then you can backup over 4Gb of data on one disk.

Thanks beorhethelm, I have Nero so I'll look more closely at it and give that a go

Thanks tinx, i was actually thinking about upgrading to a DVD writer in the relatively near future so that could be the option in the future
