England's James Kirtley claimed two wickets in as many balls in the first over of the morning to leave South Africa struggling to avoid the follow-on in the third Test at Trent Bridge.
He beat left-hander Jacques Rudolph outside off-stump with the first delivery of the day and was then hit for a square-driven boundary.
But the Sussex seamer was rewarded for maintaining his line close to off-stump as Rudolph edged behind.
Then, from the very next delivery, Boeta Dippenaar was rapped on the pads by a delivery that nipped back a long way off the seam and umpire Darrell Hair decided it would have gone on to hit the stumps despite it appearing to be missing leg.
Kirtley now has figures of...
Overs 16
Maidens 3
Runs 46
Wickets 2
